sorry my bad, i miss informed. I also misunderstood and thought you were looking for a final drive, but your looking for an actual 5th gear. Here is a quote from Gro Harlem for final drive info, hope this somewhat helps.
Although, i was sure my local race buddy used a 626 final drive to reduce 5th gear RPMs on his EGT.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
FYI for those who are out of the know....the list below details the G-series mazda gear box:
Cars with 4.39 final drive:
-92-96 MX-3 GS with 1.8 V6
-93-97 Ford Probe GT
Cars with 4.11 Final drive:
-90-94 Mazda Protege LX (1.8 dohc)
-95 Protege ES
-93-97 Mazda 626 and MX-6 (both 4cyl and 6cyl
-98-02 Mazda 626 (all models)
-01-03.5 Protege (all with 2.0 engines)
-91-94 Mercury Capri (all) note, these all have a cable operated clutch (which doesn't really matter if ur just taking the gears)
-91-96 Ford Escort GT or LX-E (with 1.8 dohc)
-91-96 Mercury Tracer LTS (with 1.8 dohc)
-97-Present Ford Escort & ZX2 (ALL MODELS, either 2.0 SPI or Zetec...all have a G-series gear box)
Cars with a different final drive:
-Ford Escape & Mazda Tribute (have like a 4.5x final drive...b/c they are trucks and use large diameter tires). dunno why the hell you'd want such a huge final drive.

The G5MX-R found on 4wd models (1.8sohc and gtx ) has 0.717:1 ratio
The G25m-r on Diesel proteges (hard to find) has 0.680:1 ( and a 4th of 0.860:1)
The GT-Ae gearbox has 0.717:1
The F5M-R has 0.731:1. If you find it on a b8-me engine (1.8sohc) it has a final drive of 3.619:1
Some F25M-Rs have also 3.619:1 final drive and 0.775:1 5th gear ratio
With all those different options and the fact that it's difficult to understand which gearbox you have in front of you when you buy from a junkyard, the only thing that you can do is guess.

I'm not going to garuntee you that it will work, but 99.5 and up ZX2s used a .717 fifth, and certain MX6s did as well, though there's only a handful (5 pairs I believe) of the 626 part left in the country, it definately does fit a DOHC G box, but I'm pretty sure the ZX2 parts will fit as well, I should have more on this in a few weeks, I have a 98 ZX2 with the .75 fifth and I'm probably going to swap it with the .717 i put in the EGT as I daily drive the zx2 and any gas milage i can get is worth some effort.-Mike
