    Glazed clutch disc?

Is this clutch disc glazed or just not worn in completely yet (~2k miles)? I haven't experienced any slipping. To me it looks like the area where the rivets are is not making contact with the flywheel/pressure plate *yet*. The other side looks identical, just with the opposite rivets. The area in between the rivets is a little shiny and somewhat smooth, but nowhere close to a mirror finish.

    Ok, to put back in?

Its trash. I'll take it :D

I would think it's ok as long as it's not slipping. Wait for someone else to reply though. I don't have very much experience changing clutches.

why'd you pull the clutch out 2k miles later anyways?

yeah my used GTX unit from a member's swap looked like that, and its still going 1 year later, with lots of hard driving.

the only concern i would check for is any signs of overheating

Looks ok to me. Seems to have some even more holding power in store.

ACT didn't slip even at 20 psi eh?

Looks fine to me too. In fact, the laws of physics would say, the less material that is being touched by the pressure plate and flywheel, the greater the force those areas are seeing. That's why most race clutches are puck style.

It's the ACT HDSS that I use one my 340whp GTR-powered Protege.

The tranny blew and I figured I'd take a look and see how the clutch is holding up.

What are the signs of overheating? I didn't notice any discoloration on the flywheel or pressure plate.

Yup, so far holding fine on dyno pulls up to 22-23psi.

Thanks for all the info guys, I guess the disc is going back in.

My clutch "Squeaks" every time I upshift. It's getting really annoying.
I'm starting to wonder if my fly is glazed up.

Any new power numbers at 24psi Ferdi? Is the turbo running out of puff around that point?

The spec Stage 2+ disc is a bitch to drive in traffic. I think I might switch to an organic ACT next.

Oh sorry, I meant 22-23psi, for some reason I always think 24psi. I haven't been back to the dyno.

I really like the feel of this organic disc and as long as it holds I am gonna keep it.

i have this clutch as well but mine is a bit worn (got it used). it drives great, but it did not hold up well to being slipped (drag strip launches). soooo i'm switching to a spec stage 3+ disc.

if you dont drag race, organic is def the way to go

pitting of the metal surfaces (like the edges of a piece of metal after cutting it with a torch) or in extreme cases small fractures in the metal surface, all of which you would see easily on the metal were the clutch material and the hub meet.

on 2nd look (on my home pc cuz my work one is BS) that disc looks fine for a used disc. the slight divets seem to follow the rivet heads only , so the valleys are probably from the manufacturing process.
