Reverse Issue

This is for my 1994 323 1.6L 5spd. The car won't shift into reverse. it feels like the gear is locked out or like its just not there... Here is what i've gotten done

New clutch and pressure plate installed
fly wheel machined
New speedo Gear installed

Car has a shifter rod instead of cable, and it was never disconnected from the trans when the trans was removed.

I have no idea, neither does 4 other techs at the dealership where i work, why the car won't shift into reverse. Any ideas?

check the syncro gear i had the same problem changed out the syncro and now it works but if i go to fast in reverse it kicks out of gear still working on that any ideas

Can you put it into reverse if the car is off?

Old thread, I know. I'm posting for all of the googlers out there, I guess.

Check the reverse light switch. You MUST have the copper washer/gasket in there, otherwise the internal linkage bottoms out the switch before the gear engages.

happened to me once. I didn't put the copper washer on, and couldn't get into reverse. Put the washer on, smooth sailing....
