    Yes, another clutch question thread

I just burned out my third clutch in 3 enduro races with my protege. I have been using stock replacement clutches, as they were warrantied, but I'm tired of replacing them...... What clutch is strong yet affordable? I'm thinking F1 stage 3, as I'm beating on the thing so hard all the time. (I always take off at VERY hard when I race, and I'm always kicking the clutch, so I need a STRONG one. Can the F1 stage 3 handle this? My car is slightly modified, nothing serious.

Try an ebay XTD clutch for a 1.8L Miata.

Will that work with my stock flywheel?

if you have the dohc the clutch and p/p is the same contact isc at http://www.iscracing.net/miata_chassis.html get the solid disc and the hi-pressure p/p and make sure you get the flywheel cut and you will not be disappointed. i just installed this setup in my pro and love it.

what about the 2.5 liter ford probe clutch, it is a direct bolt in and is like a stage 1 clutch for the BP, you using a BP flywheel and all? look up a clutch for a 93 ford probe with 2.5 liter, it's like 1/2 an inch bigger disc and has 6 springs in it, and make sure you machine your flywheel when you put in a new clutch, or it will fry premature! my black car ate a clutch in 30k cuz the guy didn't machine the flywheel, said it was replaced at like 150k and I replaced it at 180k slipping like mad, the disc looked like new, but the flywheel step height was off, really important!

I'm running a 2.5 KL clutch. It's slipping and It's not very old. I would go with a decent aftermarket clutch. Jinx is running this Fidanza and he drives it very hard and it has never slipped. I know you aren't making near that kind of power, but I doubt you'll ever have to worry about it slipping if you get this and machine your flywheel.

I'm also running the fidanza 9lb aluminum flywheel which means I have no clue how it would perform with a stock flywheel.

I've had great luck with SPEC clutches in my turbo wagon.

I'm using an ACT V6 clutch in my (stock) blue protege 4WD, and it's got a heavy pedal, but great grip. In my (BP-powered) gray protege 4WD at a RallyX last weekend, with a stock replacement clutch, it was slipping like a mofo when going into gear. Just fine on the highway though.

I'd say look to the V6 clutch, as they're made for a heavier car with more torque, which equates to better clamping power. You might end up having a heavier clutch pedal,

I need to look into seeing if the V6 clutch master/slave is different from the ones in 4cyl cars.

I think this is what I'll be going with if I fix the car.

I would love to run the fidanza, but it's out of my budget.

Ya and ebay stage three... I wouldnt see why you would want to go with anything lighter duty.. Its an enduro car .. ... and there around 130 bucks..

Make sure to get your flywheel resurfaced,, prolly have to go to a shop for that.. not your local dealer/parts store,, becuase of the studs and mounting hole placement on our flywheels.. I think I was charged 30 one time and 40 another time.

yeah, this won't be the first time resurfacing it. I think it's around the 3rd time. $50 last time I did it.
