Miata Clutch Woes -Throw Out Bearing Different?

I ordered a 6 puck racing clutch online and to my surprise when I went to install it the clutch and pressure plate fit fine but the throw out bearing seems to be of a different size and doesnt even fit in the shift fork mechanism. I ordered it for the 1.8l miata.

Strange thing is that years ago I ordered a clutch from a miata and I remember all of the parts fitting...maybe my memory is just gone.

Has anyone else dealt with this before? Think I can just reuse my original throwout bearing as it is still relatively new?

Also I have never installed a 6puck clutch before, but every other time I have installed a clutch the pressure plate sits somewhat loosely behind the clutch and I have to use the alignment tool several times to get the trans on properly. (by loosely I mean firm, but still able to move with the alignment tool if I push hard enough after the clutch is torque down on it)

With the 6 puck disc there is absolutely no play when the clutch is installed (I have to tighten down the clutch after centering the disc)

    Torqueing to 28 ft pounds

Also there was no diagram to indicate which side of the PP faces the flywheel, so I put the "hat" on the opposite side of the flywheel facing the clutch fingers.

    Does this seem right?

Like i said I have never put in a 6 puck before and I want to make sure I dont fubar anything.

also the clutch I replaced turned out to be a like new LUK clutch from south africa. if anyone needs a OEM style replacement let me know and you can have it for cheap.

    Thanks, Jeff

the Throw out bearing is different on the miata so you will need a FWD one.

the spring hat faces the pressureplate

        ditto, TOB is different.

i am using an ACT probe v6 kit on a 99 miata FW. no issues, same TOB...used the whole kit, works as stated.

im pretty sure there should be no movement on the disc once the PP is torqued down, puck or full face..

I would replace the TOB. It's like a $25 part.

            thanks for the responses guys

I slide the trans on and it seems ok. the throw out bearing has less than 5000kms on it and this trans wont be in for very long so I am just gonna reuse it. toyota trans goes in with the gtr motor

                i thought i ordered a clutchmaster 6 puck street/strip clutch

when it got here to my surprise its a e-clutchmaster. checked my ebay history and sure enough I didnt even notice the E. not sure what an eclutchmaster is but it better work good.

its probably your basic spraypainted stock clutch, with a name that sounds like a reputable brand. "clutchmasters" is the name brand you probably thought you were getting, not "clutchmaster" or "e-clutchmaster"
