    mazda GTR gearbox problems

    hi there
i changed gearbox to my 323 gtx and i installed a gearbox from a gtr.
since then it looks like that there is a gear stuck because i can start it only if i press the clutch otherwise it leaps forward. it goes and i can change gears but i can feel that the diffs are stuck
    any ideas?

There's a starter cutoff switch that is supposed to keep the starter from working unless the clutch is pushed in. What do you mean when you say you can feel teh diffs are stuck? Does it go into neutral? Did you make sure the centerdiff was unlocked? I gues since the car drives you can rule out the front halfshaft spider gears fell outta place, at least there's some good news.

      hi mate
thanks for the reply.i mean that it feels like it has gear in it but it doesnt...it goes to neutral but to change gears you have to push a bit hard. its not smooth the change of gears. how can i make sure that the centerdiff was unlocked?

where is the clutch grabbing?? as soon as you start to move off the floor???

I am a little lost as to what your problem is... if you put the stick in neutral and let the clutch out while its idling is everything ok?? does it sit there and idle??

will it only start when you have your clutch pedal all the way to the floor?

when i start the car it behaves like it has a gear it but its in neutral. to start the car i have to press the clutch. after that it idles but revs high and you can feel that the car wants to move forward but its braking (its not the brakes or anything like that) when i press the clutch pedal again the revs drops and that feeling of the car moving forward stops.

Well, none of that makes the slightest sense to me...sounds like maybe you've got the clutch/flywheel spacing all kinds of wrong so the clutch isn't disengaging all the way. Park it till it's fixed or you're gonna be minus one GTR box right quick. Maybe it's just a hydraulic issue, but in any case you're asking for trouble trying to drive it like this.

                hi guys
i know its a very weird problem. maybe has something to do with the alignment of the clutch/flywheel? also the guy who sold me the gearbox he told me that he will send me the front diff. it might be the problem. the car is parked and i am not driving at all but i will get a vid and post it
                thanks

Something like this happened to me (i think)but after the early stage of my swap when the car was in neutral, clutch in, it would move when you first fired it up.Maybe a inch,it was very "disconcerting",freaky actually. It disappeared quickly.

did you swap the clutch? perhaps you put it on flipped around?

yes i changed the clutch and the pressure plate as well. the guy who did it is a mechanic...is it possible that he did that mistake? is it possible to put it the wrong way?

Hi, I was looking for infos about a problem I have and found this post. I know it is old but decided to revive it instead of making a new one as I have the same probleme.
I changed the gearbox and the "new" one is doing the same thing. It is most of the time really hard to put it into first or reverse and when they are engaged they are really hard to disengage.
It is probably linked to the problem described here, my car does the same thing. When starting the car, gearbox in neutral it tries to move forward exactly like if it is not in neutral. So I have to press the clutch pedal to start it. I tried disconecting the shifting cables from the gearbox and it does the same.
I the opened the "box" on top of the gearbox where the "shifting levers" are to reveal the shifting rods, I can't move them around in there (with a screwdriver).
Sorry for my english, any help is welcome!

                          Hi mate
i think my guy replaced the gearbox internals and then it was fine
it also happened to me again when I tried to install a short shifter. Make sure you have connected the change gear cables correctly.

And did you also have big difficulties to engage gears when you had this problem?

Yes I think I had to push real hard to enhance a gear and when I was doing that it was leaping forward
