    What causes this?

Everytime I start the car it puffs this crap out. What could be causing it? Looks like wet soot. As you can see it shoots onto my garage door. Looks ****ty now

i think it's cause you're running rich, my jeep does the same thing, and I've never got the carb tuned right.

Soot from running rich+moister as byproduct of internal combustion process. As the exhaust warms, the moister stays vaporized as it exits the system.

My protege does the same thing. My truck and 626 does the same thing. It's normal. It's the byproduct of a perfect combustion. When accelerate, soot builds up in the exhaust system. When it's cool like that, it spits water which in turn takes some of the soot off the inside of the exhaust pipes. It's normal.

every car i've owned does it, moisture always builds up in your exhaust first of all...hence why exhaust systems rot from the inside out.
