Need help with dropped shifter

    Hello everyone,

Im new to the forums and did a little searching but i couldnt find any topics on shifters.

I have a 1.8L DOHC MPFI LX Model

My problem is in the shifter housing, after taking a look im assuming my C clips broke because my shifter is sunken within the housing. i can still drive and shift but its a little hard to put it in the correct gears since theres so much play.

My question is, what part do i need to replace to get my shifter back to normal? Such as, is there maybe a replacement shifter kit i can buy?

I was also looking into a short shifter, i have a 1990, is there any available for this year?(i couldnt find one doing extensive google searching) if so would the kit come with all the parts to fix my problem?

    I appreciate all the help.

    Thanks

2 minute set jb weld, get a few tubes, mix it all up pack it around the bushing that dropped and pull it back up. let it sit a few minutes and pack some more in i usually use 2 or 3 of the small tubes per car..... i just dont like the idea of drilling a hole in my car and doing the nut/bolt thing like everyone else...lol...

hmm so you think jb welding the rubber seal that ripped around the shifter would do it? i mean that just sounds kinda dumb for mazda to make that rubber seal support the whole shifter/rod, meaning, wouldnt there be something else supporting the shifter that i can replace?

alright sounds good, i was reading another thread saying something about this anti drop clip thing that you can install under the shifter, i think you said something about it with the hole drilling. but would this be a recommended step in securing it in place? it just seems that id have to be extra careful to not apply too much pressure when shifting after jb welding it back together, i mean if thats how they came stock, with just the rubber seal around it holding it up then after jb welding it back together i should be fine right, if theres nothing else broken that i can see?

Anything beats the screwing or mechanical attachment process... You end up with loose screws, rattles and irritating noises...JB weld it... it should hold for a good while.... make sure everything is clean and clear of grime oils and stuff.

im just gonna get some jb weld and weld the rubber back into place while installing an anti drop bracket just to eliminate all future problems.
