    puting a new 5th gear in?

    Ive never touched the inside of a transmission and it truly scares me a little. Did some searching with no luck. I bought a tranny with the 5th gear/reverse pulled because the guy needed 5th. So buying a 5th gear this week from mazda and diving in. Is there a how to i overlooked? I have my trans with blown dif im going to open first to help if possible but idk what else is messed in there yet... Possible that even that 5th gear would work? If no obvious damage to it I assume should be ok?

    just bought clutch and last of turbo goodies so motor and trans are going back in once i put this trans together

    You pick up that trans from Josh? I did the 5th gear swap for him in his escort. I did a writeup on MX-3.com but it was for an F-series. its pretty similar, and much easier if you do it with the trans out. You may want to see if a member on here can hook you up with a 626 5th gear swap, it will lower your rpms by 500 in 5th gear.

      cars going to be a once a week or two toy so rpm isnt crucial unless i come accross it for similar money as the GT one from mazda. and yes from josh. ill try searching mx3 but was hoping for a dead nuts diy.

      you think dif blowing in my tranny should screw up 5th?

                not sure if u can in the BG's. but with the probes you can just pop the trans pan off while the trans is still in the car, and swap out your 5th gear. even if you have never done it before, you can do it in less then 30 minutes with the trans still installed. its way easy. but only 5th gear, and reverse can be found under the trans pan. if you wanted to mess with any of the other gears, then you would have to remove the trans.

                    Trans was out of car as well as motor. But swapped from trans with blown dif to the good trans today without any problems. Thanks for the help guys
