I dont mean to threadjack here BUT

....I can turbo my 1.8l Sohc motor? (I mean, I KNOW I CAN, everything can be T-charged) but what power gains am I looking at / whats the breaking point? who here has done it & where can I find a build log? **Concealer**

I don't have a B8, sorry, can't really help you. My SOHC was turbo'd from factory.

He could buy a gtx-gtr exhaust mani. Or flip a ebay miata one.

Hince why i seriously thinks thats why he wants to stay with the sohc. the challenge and the different factor. Look at the ratio of boosted bpt vs sohct.

People dont boost the sohc bc their is nothing readily available (see cheap, simple, dependable, tried or true, and exhaust manifolds) to make these a easy and dependable swap.

Thats his reason for not wanting a bpt. The challenge.

im a welder and a builder.. it was in front of me. i built the turbo kit that i dont really have much in. stuff laying around. i would love to have a bp .. but that takes money and time.. this is just a fun 13 second car. with the old wore out motor and ****ty tune i was beating modded mustangs... not just bolt ons either.. im talking head work, cam , intake gears,, frame ties and ****.. were im from dig racing is big. thats why i like the torque. when i put it back together i am also welding the diff together.. and throwing slicks on it.

ok back to the topic.. so i can just put a bp crank rods and pistons in my b8 block? all the clearance are the same??? let me know so i can figure out this combo.. thanks.... boostfreak.

You want to stay with the sohc crank and pistons. The sohc crank is lighter and the pistons have a better cr ratio than with the bp pistons with the sohc head. The rods are the same. If you want stronger rods, find some b6t pistons. They usually go for about $150 for the set.

The sohc crank should be fine somewhere upwards of 250hp. Crank failure has ever been a issue with the bp engines.

right now it just had a safc which didnt work the greatest.. but it ran like 10.5 at idle. and 11.5 wide open.. and 5 th gear would go to 9.9 sometimes on the wideband. i could get it to run right at all.. unless i got a bad wideband. then who knows.. im thinking about getting a plug and play ecu but well see how money goes..
