looks like a BHA engine or a Japanese BP from a 2nd gen Protege.

That valve cover is second gen BP. And since it says Mazda, it's from a Protege. Here's a pic of a Kia BP:

i dont think its even a BP. it looks more like the dohc 1.5 to me.

^^ its definitely not a Z5, the intake is way different and the head is not as wide.

i wasnt talking about the z5. those have the stupid exhaust manifold looking intake manifolds. i was talking about the engine in the mx3. which i think is just a B6.

but if u look closer to the valve cover, the indent where the spark plugs goes isnt a straight line like on my pic. from my research, the engine you have a pic of is a b6d which 2nd gen mx3 also had. is there a much better way of finding out like a stamp on the block or a component?

i agree, i was just showing what it looked closest to that i knew of. that also doesnt have that horrible throttle body on it.

im parting it out and buddy of mine has a bh so we are trying to figure out if its a 1gen or 2gen bp.

POP the vc off and see what cams it has. might be lucky and find bp22 came.

The bp22 cam motors came with more HP. I think it was only a few HP but the came are better for a little na action
