How much HP do you think you can run on BP stock internals? I've just been reading about Honda engines and am just amazed at how much they're getting out of them with stock internals. So I was just curious if our motors are as capable as these Honda ones. I'm die hard Mazda and I won't go to the dark side lol

Snap a timing belt on a Honda = replace motor
Snap a timing belt on a bp= replace timing belt
Install 300-400 dollar rods and you can pull 400+ out of a bp. Now the transmission.....that's a whole new problem.1993 Protege LX-Midnight's shadow SOLD

Reading about what a honda motor can put out with stock internals on teh intarwebz is not the best way to gather this info. I know of a place that will sell you a bseries honda motor that is rated to put out 500 hp. It's ten grand, and most assuredly not stock. These intarwebz gurus with stock internals hondamotors...for how long will they put out these numbers, whatever they are? Two passes? Six months of parkinglot one tire fires? I found from personal experience that a bpt with stock rods can be rallied hard at 18-19 psi from a gt28r turbo, but turning the boost up to 21 results in a thrown rod and ventilated block. A GTR motor, like say the one in my street car, has put up with a tremendous amount of abuse, for years and years, with bone stock internals, a dyno'd output of more than 300 at the wheels, with autocrosses, track days, wide opened intake/exhaust/big injectors and 23psi. I put aside a few bucks a month toward the engine rebuild fund, and that fund is more'n big enough now... When I bought the car in '06 I wasn't as confident. Here it is 6 years and 80k miles later and still embarrassing musclecars, but fully aware that what I have here is a hand grenade with the pin pulled out. It's just a matter of time but I am more than satisfied with the longevity of the bp mill under the most trying conditions.
If you're gonna go through the hassle of trying to get V8 numbers outta some tiny ass 4banger, why bother with stock parts. I can't say I'm impressed by someone who saiy that have X HP on stock internals. Results are all that matters, not how you get there. A set of Eagle rods is 450. Wisecos are another 4-500. That and a good build-n-balance by a reputable shop and a careful tune is pretty much what *any* small displacement engine is gonna need to put out tripledigit power/liter numbers and do it for any length of time.
I don't wanna talk about gearboxes... :p'90 AWD Protege, full GTR drivetrain swap, ~320 whp daily driver, RIP, and
'90 AWD Protege, yet another GTR swap, Open class rallycar with a Toyota GT4 gearbox swap, thus crossing the line between hobby and mental illness. And a Brabus E55 K8, removing all doubt.
