g series isn't rare. and runs about ~75.00 @ most wreckers

edit : and the bp ( sohc) F series will bolt up as well altho is not quite as " robust" as the g series it will on the other hand have a better /lower rpm in 5th while cruising

I was wondering about the difference between the F5M-R and the G5M-R as well. I did notice some forums in searches state that it's difficult to find. If I find one at a junk yard, what kind of service is usually required? Should i replace everything inside with newer components? I now automatics need an overhaul kit after time, which is why I ask. Thank you.

uh, drain the fluid and put new fluid in it.

I'm running lots of boost through a junkyard G-series and I'm using super cheap ATF in it, that's all.
