Protege BP cranks but won't start

My '94 Protege won't start after running fine this morning. I have checked for spark by putting the coil lead near the chassis and can see a good arc. I can't hear the fuel pump, tho. I tried pulling the fuel relay in the relay box and I can hear it click on when it's plugged in and can hear something else near the throttle body. Is there anything else that could prevent the pump from running? I'm at work so I don't have much of anything for tests right now. Thanks!

I think the air flow meter has a fuel pump signal as well, so you may want to check to see if it's stuck open or disconnected.

Also you should be able to hear the pump with the rear seat cushion off (two clips by where the lower cushion meets the carpet)

You can jump FP and GND in the DIAGNOSIS box. That should force the fuel pump to run if it can.

I can now hear the pump run with the jumper in but the battery is getting weak. If it starts, can I limp home like this (20 miles) or will I run pig-rich and flood? Can anyone explain how the circuit opening relay works?

As I understand things, the pump only supplies the pressure. It's the injectors that regulate it, so the mix should not be affected by that jumper. As I understand things.

I'm afraid I can't tell you what that relay does. Not tonight anyway. I had finals all day.

yep it's the fuel pressure regulator that...well regulates fuel pressure lol, not the pump so it won't flood unless the diaphragm is shot on the regulator.

Did you make it home though?? Any updates?
