    drive shaft question

Alright dumb question. Can you have both the drive shafts out of the trans at the same time? I think you can, but my dad is dead set on that you can't because the ring gear falls out of place, or something like that. Can one someone clear this up for the record?
    Thank you!

never mind. Just checked mitchell and i need a differential gear holder if I take both out. And I do need to take both out cause i'm having the trans overhauled. So where do I get this tool?

How about a deep socket on an extension, works for me.

A piece of broomstick will do the job just fine.

That's what I use, put in both sides just in case one falls out. They are to hold the two differential gears from rotating around and falling into the transmission.

I left it unsopported and nothing bad happened. You should stick something in there though, just to be safe.
