    alternator upgrade.

ok im looking at upgrading my alternator. After all these years in the bg world and all the different mods i have done to many different bg's, I have never upgrade a alternator.

So with that being said im looking/weighing my options, so whats out there?

I have searched this a few times but nothing has really been documented, or it to old the links dont work.

I would also be fine with upgrading to and non v belt set-up if it would would work with the small nosed crank BP.

milli v6 alt. oem denso is 105 amps. You will have to swap pulleys to a serp drive which can be had off a bp kia sephia 96-98 I believe.

The mx3 v6 alt is 85 or 90 amp and and I think the mpv alt works as well. The 89 rx7 alt is 75 or 80 amps turbo and non turbo.

eBay has a 120 amp alt for about $140 from ace auto listed under the 89 rx7.

You may also want to look into the big 3 upgrade if you are into car audio and may run a 2ndary battery like a XS Power XS750.

start with the big 3 even if your not into audio.
what major draw items do you have besides normal headlights/ distributor setup?
      foglights/COP's/audio/exotic setup??

the KL alternator is a great step up (90 amp vs 65 OEM). elsewise I highly encourage a 140/120 amp alternator(I got my 140amp from ebay)
the 90amp will make your car run entirely different. significantly smoother. it will leave you wondering why OEM put on such a small amperage unit.
I highly encourage you to stay away from the millenia alternators. the plugs on them are exceptionally delicate & like to break, which can lead to a whole different world of issues.

no, i would have to look back to last year or so to find the one i bought. thats a 120 amp. mine is a 140 amp unit.
120A is plenty sufficient for our usages.

I usually buy fro ace on ebay. The highest they have listed right now is the 110a: http://www.ebay.com/itm/1993-Mazda-R...item2310e9e388

Ryan, the 626 v6 and mx3 v6 uses the same plug as the bg?

We need a v belt pulley option as
            1) you could sell those v belt pulley's like hotcakes for a cheap alt upgrade that's readily available and
            2) it would be plug and play.

This would be for my bp turbo swapped bf gtx, stock audio, aftermarket fog lights, possibly h.i.d. conversion.

I just want a nice rock solid set-up as this will be daily driver in the winter.

Not saying im going to go this route, but is there crank pulley that is set-up with a serpentine style alternator that works with the small nosed cranked bps?

Mx3 B8 uses a serp belt but not an amperage upgrade. The 89 RX7 uses an 80 amp that I use on my gtx's but then I am still using the narrow v belt pulleys.

Sorry to sound like a noob but what's the big 3 upgrade you guys are talking about?

My GT could use an alternator so might as well upgrade so this thread is a good read lol

I don't think we got the BP Sephia up here so if someone has a pulley kicking around, I'd be interested in one

its the 3 main power leads/lines

per example. alternator to battery, starter to battery, battery to fuse block.

Here are some pictures of mine. <<<<<<

Is that a small nosed crank on the mx3 b8's?
                            what years?
Thats fine that the b8 mx3 do not have a upgraded alt, as you could use a nother model higher amp alternator but could use the mx3 crank pulley for the upgrade.
