Keeping A/C after P/S delete (the evolution of failure).

So my manual rack conversion is all bolted up. Wheels on, ready for alignment.

If everything goes well, I will then look at how I can run the A/C compressor after deleting the P/S and swapping to manual rack. Wanted to jot down some things.

The A/C tensioner bracket for Non-P/S optioned BGs was:

Part#: BP01-15-951. This is just for the bracket..

*Anyone know what the hell 15-920 is used for?

The miata guys like to say the part call out is:

Part#: BP01-15-930. This actually is the whole assembly, collar, idler pulley, AND bracket.

Obviously, like most non-P/S specific parts they are discontinued.

Then the Miata guys thought they were crafty because they pulled a Sephia call-out from the dealer:

Part#: 0K201-15-930. Then, I'm sure 105 crap NAs later, they depleted stock.

So now they either use a zombie P/S pump for the wheel, or,

they just throw on a small Dayco belt and shim the A/C comp bolts if needed.

    Part#: 4PK0775 or 5040305.

Unless anyone else knows a trick.

*Should BP Escort/Tracer/Lazer etc. FF cars have interchange?

15-920 is the mounting bracket for the AC compressor.

Even if you remove the AC system the bolt on the front side of the engine has to be engaged as it by passes an oil port(stupidest design ever).

Also any BP motor FORD/Mazda/Kia should work. That being said Ford's numbers should be depleted too. I'd look to see if AUS would still have one is stock, of see if Central America or South Africa still ran BP series. I know they kept making the BF chassics so there is a chance they kept making motors in the B-series family.

Something else someone should look at, is if an early Z-series found in the protege would work? It seems that it was just an updated B6 style motor.

Thanks wild. I think my best bet would be the legacy junk-yard search site I use. I can specify manual rack miatas and it shows which yards have them and gives a contact number. Surprisingly, they're are a lot. There are even a lot of BGs with them that pop up, but nobody will ever want to ship the rack lol.

I wonder if it's even worth it to put a request up on CP?

Cool bit about the South African BGs. Always found it funny how places like Ireland will continue to make OEM parts from copyright production machines. Hell, they were making AE86 bumpers until like last year.

The Mazda/Kia bracket and associated Parts you seek are NLA. I do happen to know somebody that’s working on reproducing the bracket and hardware though.

            Yeah I know they're NLA

But damn, your buddy could make a killing on miata forums alone. People have paid 200USD for them.

            I take it... Aluminium?

Yes it will be aluminum. The modeling is done and it just needs to get quoted.

                  Clould_Strife,

Manual rack Miatia's?? I didn't think they made a lot of those, I thought is was only the R-Package cars.
Also, I don't get deleting P/S and Keeping AC. I know it's hot down there, but if you got the AC why not keep P/S?
Now back in the day, it would be possible to get a 323 with a manual rack and AC. Probably would not have come delivered that way, but as a Dealer installed option. Mazda would supply the same kit that was used at the factory to install AC and in this box came everything: Compressor, brackets, hoses, everything but R12. Bu, good luck finding one of those.

Manual Racks where common, the base model could be non-powered. It was the NB non-powered racks that become harder to find just due to make the car more car and less roadster. I'd be suprised if to many NCs came without powersteering, and I believe the ND is only avaiable with power.

Some like the feel of manual or depowered racks over power racks. I will admit the Miata felt so much better with my depowered rack, and as for AC. If you like here in GA or FL, AC is almost a must to have a car you can drive during Spring to Fall. So much humity and heat =/
