    RX-7 air flow sensor

hi everyone, i have a quick question....

i took an air flow meter off of a RX-7 at a junkyard to put it in my 92 pro (1.8L DOHC), and i already have an intake filter. I can attach the filter to the RX-7 sensor, but the other side's hole is much bigger than the original protege one... so im unable to connect it to the pipe.... is there any adapter of some sort where i can make it fit? or have i wasted 40 dollars?

    thanks

Is it from an RX-7 turbo?

i dont think so... the RX-7 was auto too... umm on it, it says N326 13 210... mine says BP05 13 210... and it looks almost identical, just that the hole is bigger.

I have the same one in my hand. Does it have a big A on it? That would be from an RX-7 Turbo... the one that's supposed to be easiest is the non-turbo.

if you were using an adaptor before and your filter's inlet is 3" then get rid of the adaptor and put the filter right on the vaf. if your filter inlet is smaller than 3" you need a new filter.

ok well i got the thing put in, but i had to use a rubber coupling i got at home depot to connect it.... i got everything put in, and tightened it well, and im *pretty* sure there are no leaks but when i start the engine the rpm drops after about a second and the engine struggles to stay on and eventually just shuts off.. i know the air isnt going in correctly, but is it a leak in the place i connected it, or is it a bad MAF?

                  did you "tune" the VAF?

I got just a straight three inch turbonetics coupling and it works fine. Just make sure when you tune it you dont take it back too many clicks.

Trust me on this, and tune the AFM on the dyno. It might cost you $60, but it's worth it. While you're there, advance your ingition timing. These two mods could net your 10-12whp up top.
