I did the prep and my dad sprayed it (well he helped with the prep too) so it only cost what the supplies did, which was around 200$ since we have a lot of extra stuff around to paint with. The color is championship white BTW.

I could really use a respray on my escort - wish I could do it that cheaply and nicely though

does it look factory done in person?

how many coats, and what kind of coats did you put on? eg. 1 coat primer, 2 paint, 1 gloss?

If you have a garage to yourself and a LOT of free time, you can do a perfect paint job on your first try. You'd need a compressor, regulator/filter, spray gun, orbital buffer, lots of sandpaper, possibly a D/A sander, and some fans and painting supplies.

There are a few spots where there is overspray, mainly along the two black roof lines, it was really hard to mask them off perfectly. The door sills and hatch are all painted, so other than the engine bay there isn't anywhere that you can see the original color. We took a lot of care to prep it right and didn't really take any shortcuts, so it looks good but I can't say it's as good as factory.

I wanted to do a cheap paint job, so we used sealer and a one stage color coat (doesn't need clear). We did two coats of sealer and four coats of color. It looks pretty glossy in person, and you'd never notice that it's a one stage since it's white. Considering everything, I couldn't be happier with how it turned out. I didn't really spend a lot of time or money on it.

Anyway tomorrow we're going to finish the wetsanding and the wing, so I'll post plenty of pics. Those two are just teasers I guess.
