    JDM bumpers...very nice but deadly?

I have a couple of questions regarding these bumpers.
    - Gt-X front bumper for BG

    - Is the regular JDM rear bumper or the custom USDM rear bumpers that was shortened.

On these bumpers, Is there any way that I can keep my crash bars on the car to make the JDM bumpers fit? I really dont want to risk driving the car without the crash bars.

On the front bumpers, it looks like the usdm crash bars would fit under the JDM front bumpers but Im not sure.

Is there a place where I can get a metal pipe to place where the OEM crash bars were?

ok, on both front and rear bumper you have to take the crash brace out. on the front, where the crash brace mounts are the holes for the front JDM bumper. you can tell it won't fit cuz of how close the bumpers sit to the car. on the rear bumper, that is a JDM rear bumper. you can take your bumper and take out the crash brace and cut it some to make it sit flush like the JDM one, but that one on Dru's old 323 was a JDM one cuz it didn't have the side marker lights.

i'm sure that there is a way to get a bar to put under the front and rear bumper if you want them.

i swear, one day i will have a clone of Dru's old hatch.

the "crash bars" are really only there for 5-10mph fender benders. They do work though, I've heard a couple stories of people with JDM Subaru bumpers and JDM braces hitting an object at slow speeds and the brace and bumper getting destroyed while those who modified the USDM brace had much less damge to the bumper and brace.

It kinda sucks, you have to pay a good bit for a JDM bumper and a 5mph tap can ruin it. Not sure if this applies to the protege, anybody hit something with a JDM bumper here?

I fairly certain that it won't make the car any more deadly in a crash.

I agree with Silentbob343. Federal frontal crash test regulation require that all cars in the USDM be fitted with a minimum 2.5 mph crash braces on the front and rear. Other countries (namely the entire planet) do not have these requirements. Carmakers, in an effort to "1 up" the others, adopted a conservative approach and made their crash braces double the strength, hence 5mph and the hure ugly bumpers we have in this country. By no means do the engineers skimp on the chassis or frame, for all are identical and pass crash tests the world over. Our bumpers are due to the preponderance of vehicles in thsi country, coupled with a conservative approach to automotive safety, not to mention the prevalence of gargantuan autos that infect our road ways. Yes, an aftermarket body kit or JDM/EDM bumper will have less strength in a minor collision, but at greated speeds the bumper use is minimized. Mind the fact that before 1972, there was no such thing as a "crumple zone". After that year, cars were designed to absorb the impact and do their acordian act. Will you be safer with a USDM bumper? Will it save lives? In very small impact collisions, yes, th USDM bumpers are safer. As to sving lives? Well, how many people you know get even remoting injured at 10mph crashes? Otherwise, your frame will bend the same way it would have if you had not midified it, regardless of the bumper you choose. I have a friend with a Trueno, he got in a fender bender, and his bumper flexed! The frame was dinged oh so little, but because his JDM bumper flexed, it was not harmed. The other car, a USDM Civic, lost it's bumper because it was firmly bolted down to the brace, hence causing irrepairable damage. Civic bumper cracked and broke, the Trueno bent inward the popped back into place. The bumpers are made of plastic and are meant to bounce back after minor bumps. We both suspect that there must be a different gradience of flex between JDM and USDM. In a nutshell, change your bumper for vanity reasons, but if you drive a Protege (especially a hatch), you are already in a small car. Any accident with an SUV or land barge that is so common here will make a more considerable difference than the bumper you choose.

So, you guys are saying even if I remove the crash bars it wouldn't make any difference when I crash or somebody crash the car running 40mph? The damage will be the same with or without the bars?

the damage is gonna be reduce some when you get into accident going 40, but since the car is old and not high in valve they will total it if it's a crash going 100 or a crash going 20. it's a honda or toyota after all, so almost any crash and they will total it.

with DJM bumpers you can kiss your crash braces good bye...BUT there is an upside (somewhat) those crash braces are kinda heavy so u can get rid of that weight.

now i know with a GTR front bumer the crash brace WILL fit...tahst what im using right now (even though i cut it all up for my FMIC...lol)
