    Mounting rally lights, where?

What are good accessible spots to mount a bar for rally lights guys? I wanted to get fancy and do the staggered 4 like so

I personally like the 4-across method, rather than upstairs/downstairs.

Mounted higher in a row like that, they will aim farther, and the terrain in front of you will not cut off your beam beyond it as you approach. Plus, there are big things closer to the ground that like to break lights. Actually, I think you want them mounted as high as you can for maximum distance, but I think roof-mounting them, or mounting higher than the mirrors, is against the regulations of a few sanctioning bodies (Rallycar(formerly Rally America) and NASA (not the space program.) I'm not sure what the organizers in Canuckistan have for rules..

This one is mounted directly to the inner channel of an Escort bumper. The Protege bumpers do not have this channel, they have a bumper skin, and a crash brace behind it. The only slightly annoying thing about this one was that the KC lights I had in the center were deep enough that I had to leave the grille off so the back of the housings would clear. I've since added another set of Hellas (cheap ones, not the uber-kick-ass ones) in their place, and will be running all six lights as HIDs. This should make the alternator feel MUCH MUCH better, lol!

That's one option for mounting. Another option, which I haven't tested but have the bracket for, is to mount to the bottom of the core support, with a right-angle over the bumber.

The one thing that's kept me from mounting it is vibration. Even with my existing bumper mount, I sometimes get quite a vibration to the lights at idle, or whenever the engine is rough. I attribute this to the mass of the bar and lights, and the fact that it's bolted only to a plastic bumper. strong plastic, but plastic nonetheless, and as such it does flex more than equivalent thickness metal would. I think you want the mount to be mounted as solidly as possible, with the least amount of protrusion possible, to minimize the vibration.

Up at LSPR this year, I got a look at Ajax's EGT rally car, and I liked the way the mounting was done. It used the sides of the core support, for mounting, with extensions forward through the grille from there. I should've taken a photo, but he was busy getting ready, and I was on my way to the worker pick-up point, so we didn't really get to chat much. If he's reading this, maybe he'd be kind enough to post up a picture of it at some point? Please?

I've got a few ideas using some tubing and a detachable mounting system, so I can use it across any of my cars , as well as keep the weight and weather off of it when it's not being used...

I think with a solid front skidplate mounting bar, it might be possible to make a loop up, sort of like a bull bar, that can have lights mounted on it as well. Just hang two from the bottom, and two on top, for your upstairs/downstairs setup..

Both of these look darned sweet, but I just feel that the lights are too low to get full use out of them..

I ike this one,but I'm not sure how it mounts. maybe just welded to the tops of the subrame stubs where the bumper mounts?

I kinda like this one too. Simple, direct, useful.

Thanks for the input Sarge. I have 2 cibie oscAr + on my tercel right now and they are on a flat alum bar made bracket that zig zags through the front grill and is anchored to the rad support with two bolts, and attaches to the license plate mount holes in the bumper . The 4 across idea I think is best for the reason of road debris, these lamps are too much $$ to replace. I would love to do a hid conversion on them but not sure how I would, these seem impossible to retrofit.
