How many miles on your tranny? I don't recommend changing the fluid, that could increase your problems ten-fold.

Check your FSM or bring it to a dealer for a shakedown, they'll let you know what's up.

      I disagree Mike.

It IS perfectly okay to change your fluid, just dont do a power flush.

I think that you will only be able to drain about 60% of the fluid though.. the rest will be stuck in the tranny. Unfortuanatley, the only way to DRAIn the fluid without the power flush is to drop the pan. its messy!

I know by experience. Changing the fluid on a problematic tranny will **** you over...HARD.

"Just a simple drain/fill." I told myself...then my anus started bleeding.

Alls I'm saying is watch out!

Despite my jokingness, I still maintain my position on not doing the flush until the tranny has been properly diagnosed and the problem determined.

Yes, the best way to check it is with the engine running. While it's on, shift the car through all the gears and then leave it on park with the car running. Also, go ahead and take off the whole pan and drain it completely. However, keep the old transmission fluid. If the new one makes it worse, put the old one back in. If the tranny is slipping, the grit in the old fluid is actually helping it not slip. If it's not slipping but instead not changing gears, it doesn't matter.

Mine started doing that too 9the hold light thing) after I got the AVF (?) replaced, since the old one shorted out. Laster for about a week, then I disconnected my driver's side auto belts (to stay on, since the rail is ****ed up and the whole thing comes out if the door opens) and the light thing stopped. And I changed the setup so I don't even have that button anymore! Last year I just took the whole thing apart and exchanged it with some escort parts for a cleaner look (the stock one had a lot of scratched and bubbles). Oh well, good luck getting it fixed!
