of course it will bolt into the car. but you need to deal with tranny and wiring.

I've decided that my car is a girl, she's picky as hell, won't listen to me, always wants to fight me, and when i give her presents it's never good enough and she always wants more.

I thought that was implied by the "AWD" part...

      So will it bolt in?

yes it will bolt in, but you'll need the BP engine wiring harness and ecu for it to run optimally. the electronic center diff lock MIGHT be part of the engine harness, i dont know. if it is, that may need to be rewired.

hmm, Interesting. I know absolutely nothing about these cars other than I'm getting one tomorrow with all new axles, brakes, and a freshly rebuilt 5-speed transmission.
Rust free Texas car that found itself in NY last year. This is going to be a fun winter

              Thanks man!
Anxious to see how you make out.

I actually have access to all those parts (and everything else on a pro lx). And I'm off to pick her up

                  I'm thinkign about it!

Got it home today. Peeked under it while it was up on the flat bed... ABSOLUTELY IMACULATE underneath. Fully undercoated and 100% rust free. I think this is a sign, lol

must be nice to see a rust free car in NY. My AWD pro came from Maine and NH and needless to say had some cancer. Any way the DOHC BP will bolt directly in the car and if you have access to an LX the wiring harness and ecu will go right in as well. As far as the diff lock wiring it is located in the power harness for the car not in the engine control harness (if I am not mistaken since I no longer have eletric diff lock with J- spec tranny). Good luck and have fun

It's so clean under there it's kind of scary! I'm going to put it up on a lift at work and touch up the undercoating so I can use it this winter with a clear concious.

The more I think about it, the more my budget for my turbo zetec Tracer wagon project shrinks. I'm already torn and I havn't owned the damn thing for more than 12 hours yet, lol.

You guys seem to know your stuff, maybe you can help me out with a slightly off topic question. I bought the LX a few weeks back to help out a couple of friends. One needed the rear suspension with disk brakes, and the other is converting his automatic escort GT to a 5-speed. The motor/transmission and all parts needed to do the conversion are going to his car. My question is: What parts would he actually need to do that swap on his car that I would need as well? He has an extra 5-speed ECU, and I'm assuming he won't need the engine harness since his vehicle is already BP equiped (please correct me if I'm wrong). I have a line on an early Kia Sephia, so this could be my engine donor. If not, they're easy enough to find.

The car I just bought has a blown head gasket that I plan on having repaired this week. If the BP swap is something I can do for roughly the same amount of time and money (considering the parts I have available). Then that is what I might do instead.

                      Thanks for your imput!

the 5 speed and auto ECU's and harnesses are different... but you can run a 5 speed car on an auto harness and ecu. you just have to rewire the neutral safety switch wires into the clutch interlock switch (apparantly... ive never done it).

if you have a line on an early kia sephia PM me, if its a 5 speed i need some parts from it that you dont need... i could pick them up when i come for those wheels (transmission and axles). ive got a spare 5 speed BP harness i could offer as a partial trade , among other various piles of BP stuff.

Is it absolutely necessary to pull the transmission to swap the engine? I'm going to perform the swap this week and would love to be able to just pull the engine and drop the other right in.

its lots easier if you put both together outside the engine bay and drop both in. But you can leave the tranny in also, there is room to work it around.
No car! I soldz it. Now I have a truck. I like it, but apparently it has a hard time keeping up with a slightly modified 4WD protege with half the hp. Neat.

Ok if your going to swap the BP into the B8 4wd here is some things that I am battling right now. I pluged the BP harness into the car with the swap, and pluged the ecu in and grounded. cranks but no fire... I then start digging into the wirring diagram.. the dohc uses a 4th wire to the disy, and a wire to the vics, but also all the fule pump and transfer wires run through the x-03, and x-04 connectores under the heater box. I am in the process of stripping the BP harness to rob the two wires and add them to the B8 harness instead of repinning the x-03 and x-04 connectors.. Other than the minute wirring delay, everything else is straight bolt in stuff... I say do the BP swap and scrap the b8...
