    1992 323 engine swap

Hey guys I'm new to the forum. I looked at this link :

and din't find what I wanted. I'm wondering how hard a bpt swap would be ? Also would just doing a Bp swap and then turbocarging the engine be any better ? Also, any other engines that would make a good swap ? Thanks guys !

First off, welcome to the club!

You can swap either a BP into it then turbo it or put a BPT into it, but getting a BP and turboing it would probably make finding a motor easier, you'll also want the harness and ECU from the BP/BPT to make the swap easier.

As for other motors you can use, there's always the B6D which is what I put in my 323 and can be turbo'd later as well, but the drawback is that it doesn't make as much power as the N/A BP. The B6D is the 1.6L DOHC found in the Miata and MX-3, it has a noticable power gain from the SOHC 1.6L(B6) that's in your car now.

Either engine would make a great swap, it just matters what your future goals are.

Good luck on your project and pics are a must of your 323!

You could use an AWD tranny, but why not just get another tranny and sell the AWD and make a little money as it'd take some modification if you planned on converting to AWD. You can use the tranny that's on your SOHC now, but I'd suggest using a G-Series tranny from a Pro LX if you plan on turboing it.

If you're going to yank a BP out of a Pro or EGT, then get the Tranny, ECU, and Harness all at once.

        MrH.

          Another option is the B6T.

well if power is what you want, and you want it to the floor, don't waste the time converting your fwd to awd. the fwd g trans can handle tons of power, and with a welded lsd its not as likely to dump itself when you dump the clutch. if you've got a kia sephia around somewhere, steal the engine and trans and driveshafts. people have had the best luck with big power outa those. then pickup a turbo manifold and put a t3 on it. get a standalone ecu to handle the spark and fuel. tune it. get racing slicks. make it into the 12s. report back. simple yes?
No car! I soldz it. Now I have a truck. I like it, but apparently it has a hard time keeping up with a slightly modified 4WD protege with half the hp. Neat.

does the 323 wire harness has to be changed for bpt?

well I'm pretty sure sticking a kia engine in there would be harsh moding.I'm really into a BPT swap. I was wondering is this swap really hard ? I mean, mounting, wiring fiting, etc.. etc..oh btw, I never thought of going AWD, ima stick with the fwd ! fwd ftw !

BPT isa good option, downside is its usually attached to the awd tranny, and you have the F tranny, and need to the G. lots of leg work sourcing all parts together. I still say your best bet is to find a regular BP and install that. once that is together and running smoothly, then source the parts to enjoy a turbo setup. you'd be amazed at how much more fun the BP is than the B6.

start simple, don't rush something like this, you'll be glad you did.

                        No it wouldn't.

Spenone ran a kia motor in his old protege and had that boosted.

Another option is to stick a v6 from a 93-96 probegt/mx6/626 in. Or grab a klze v6 and put it in the place of the klde. Good luck in your decision and let us know what you deside.

other thing about AWD.. they seem to be weak.. alot of people in fordlaser tx3 complain on how they always snap the shift cable on that car.. also if you want a AWD setup its better finding a GTR tranny than a GTX one..its been done ..but you need aLOT of fabbing!
