    Fuel Filter Change

I know normal there is a process to release the pressure in the fuel line, but I forgot to do it before I removed everything for my clutch install.

I figured with the transaxle out its a great time to change the fuel filter. It is really unsafe or could it cause damage to remove the fuel filter without releasing the pressure? Is there a way to do it without plugging the battery back in?

    Thanks

Take off the gas cap. It should be fine. I have done it a couple times and broke nothing.

Will a lot of gas spill out since I didn't stall it out?

I just want to know what to be prepared for. It has been a long time since I did a filter change.

      Thanks again

yeah its dependant on how much pressure is in the system... there could be next to none if its been sitting for a couple days. if you just ran the car it would SPRAY for a second or 2 then drip... but it wont be much... just make sure your not smoking

iirc you take the gas cap off and remove the fuse for the fuel pump and start your car till it dies by itself

you can do it that way or just pinch the hose make sure u use like some towel between ither a vice grip or a clip so you wont puncture the hose.

when I did it with mine, a had a bit of gas come out, then i did it on my friend's and it almost nothing came out, both times I didn't really do anything special to get pressure out, just went slowly and had a rag handy to catch any excess gas.

All done, not too much gas came out. Got a little confused when I noticed they put the model # upside down on the filter, but I put wider side down.

I read that you start your car and set off the fuel cutout in the trunk... it will then run till the pressure is gone... will it start if you remove the fuse first?

We don't have the fuel cut off switches in the mazda bgs, unlike the escorts. Man that thing was annoying, turned off whenever I'd hit big bumps.

My useless EGT FSM said to run the car and disconnect the fuel pump wiring and it'll stall and relieve the pressure. And it did. Very little came out of the fuel pump hoses and DEFINTLY no "ahhhhhhh crap fuel in my eye!!!!!!!!" bs, etc.!
