    speed and mpg

I have read a few articles and studies on the optimum mph for optimum mpg. Anybody have any experiences with their BG's of the best mph for mpg? Any studies that you all have seen true so far?

with the awd pro, driving on highways, averaging 59mph (45-70 speeds), I attained 31mpg. tested this several times.
on the interstate averaging 68mph (60-80) I attained 32mpg. this has also been proven several times, same roadways.
cruising the back roads, enjoying the spirited mountain roads, never exceeding 60mph, 37mpg. WTF? weird. I was using the gears too, having fun. it was a short 100mile stretch, not 600+, but still...

soo, it seems for me, 55mph constant could net me the best, 35mpg+
never tested this though, as that's just too damned slow for me.
No car! I soldz it. Now I have a truck. I like it, but apparently it has a hard time keeping up with a slightly modified 4WD protege with half the hp. Neat.

With a slipping clutch on my 323 when it had a b6 I averaged 750 km for every 47L at 105kph. With the bpt best was 650 km / 47L at 115kph.

It seems though with more powerful engines a little more speed doesn't hurt mileage as much. With the car lowered it seems to get better mileage as well but not with rims/ sticky tires.

I certainly get metter mileage on long freeway trips, but the difference over a tank of gas only comes out to 1 or 2 mpg. The car gets 22-24 mpg pretty much no matter what. The only exception is when it's autoxing or something like that, then it's single digits, but .
My old man's 240Z got its best mileage at 90mph. It's a matter of finding the sweet spot in the cam profile, and balancing that against wind resistance...

awesome. keep the results coming everyone. I used to drive my car like a bat outta hell and got 28mpg. Now I get about 31-33mpg running under 65mph on highway and under 55mph on secondary roads. I rev between 2000 and 3500 rpms.

I've been thinking of replacing a few more things (just replaced fuel and oil filters along with spark plugs) Like O2 sensor. Any other suggestions to improve mpg with your results everyone? perhaps lowering?

i know i get much better highway mileage, a few weeks ago when i took a trip i got 430 miles to the tank and the next one was only 300 some because that was half highway, half city. in march i tried to drive slow to save gas, didnt go over 65 and no gettin on the gas hard. still didnt do much for me, got about 240 miles to that tank

unless you are a WOT all the time the mileage isnt going to differ much from spirited driving over cruising .. the pro's are pretty damn efficient ... i mean it's not like we have chev quadrajets with 800cfm opening @ wot ... my firebird used to get 20mpg cruising on the small primaries ... but the moment i tromped it ... 10mpg

My car varies based on a lot of factors, but with the U code VAF, good alignment, and properly inflated tires it usually gets 28 in the city and 32 on the freeway @ 70-75mph. At ~60mph it gets like 30mpg and at 50-55 it can get up to 36.

Running at about 70-75 mph straight highway, I get 400 plus to a tank, and thats about 33mpg. Mixed driving, highway and through town, I see about 360 to a tank, or about 30 mpg. This is a 5sp DX though with about 100 pds of audio equipment.

I used to average 30-32 driving about 70mph on 300 mile road trips. Driving slower never got any better mileage, seems the car gets the same mileage no matter what I do. Its got a gtx in it btw.

my escort pre turbo was with jay (who has a turbo)... i was 22-24 all the time, post turbo i was 27-28 ALL the time, even fillups i thought were going to drop me below my usual i always seemed to get about that much... one road trip (off topic but it was actually my first date with my now wife, to the beach) i got like 32mpg and i am a 5 over guy, freeway 10 and if you hold me back my foot is through the floor to get around you. i rotated through multiple sets of tires as i liked to spin 1st and 2nd regularly.

as for average speed, i dont have any sort of data logger so any guestimation on my average speed would be nothing more than a big steamy turd i pulled out of my ass.

After a few tweaks I'm getting 32mpg in town boosting whenever possible (9:1 pistons in a bpt). Its still meeting emissions standards for a stock 323 and not running lean on 12psi, Yahoo!!!

Now for a boost-free highway only max mpg test!

I use to do w/e 3,000rpm in 5th gear was haha. Use to get about 650-670kms out of a tank with my fuel pressure turned down to around 37-38psi. BP powered, header, intake, 2.5" exhaust, honed/cut intake mani, 5mm over bored TB, afpr, ignition upgrades, 18* timing, 91 octane....i figure its not to bad.

Around town i would average around 10-11L per 100k since i use to crack on it basically when ever i could fuel pressure was at 45psi, no traction in 1st and some traction in 2nd

For my fellow Canadians that don't measure economy in mpg that = 8.84l/100km IN TOWN!!!

Probably because I give it a 1-2 sec burst in 2nd after getting rolling then I only need to give it approx 1mm of throttle (literally) to maintain speed (60kph).

I used to get 6.7l/100km strictly highway going 105kph with a slipping clutch and a b6 I think the bpt can come close if I keep off the boost.

WOW i can only dream of getting close to 30 mpg. on the highway i average around 23 with my 93' pro. and i have replaced the fuel pump / filter, plugs, cap, wires, and air filter.

could it be my O2 sensor?
