    Constant Velocity!!!! Broken?

Hey guys my cv joints are clicking like a clock. or so i think i checked and all the boots are in great condition. when i move the tires there is a clicking sound by the boots near the transmission. I thought they joints only wore out when they got stuff up there from ripped boots.

your cv joint is dying and i would get it replaced before your going down the freeway at 60 and it snaps at the transmission and flails wildly.

The joints can die from age, without the boots wearing through. If you've got clicking from them, replace them before they explode. Find a place that does lifetime warranties. I have lifetimes on both my fronts, well worth it.
No car! I soldz it. Now I have a truck. I like it, but apparently it has a hard time keeping up with a slightly modified 4WD protege with half the hp. Neat.

I bought new half shafts, but I have no time to put them in. I was wondering if i took the boots off an greased them up If it would give me some more time until i can get around to changing them. What do you guys think?

wont take more than 2 hrs working slowly to change them as long as you soak everything for a day or two 1st in penetrator

to replace the boots corrrectly the cv joint needs to be out of the car anyway to where you can get the joint apart. if your just saying lube them up and to hell with the boot, the grease is just a magnet for dirt and will be running sand through your joint in no time.

just drive really easy generally what really bothers a bad cv joint is when the angle of the joint changes i.e. turning around corners or accelerating/decelerating hard... so basically if you dont drive it you will be fine till you can get to it ha ha.

where i stand on this topic is i dont really know the severity, the fact its making noise tells me its pretty bad, but i went like 2 weeks with my turbo escort before mine gave way and mine gave way when i popped my clutch at a stop sign Its easy for me to say you will be fine because its not me who will have to pay to tow it home when it leaves you stranded some day... look at it this way replacing it when you dont have all the time to do it comefortably is much better than the car deciding when you HAVE to spend the time and money on it. my luck has been better on myself than my car

do you know what side is bad? can you feel where the vibrations are comming from, realistically if one is going bad you may as well replace both BUT to take the decision out of your cars court replacing the bad one only will save you some time.
