You know what they say...........it's not the car, it's the driver. My guess is you went out and bought yourself a nice little DX Protege. If that's the case, don't expect any great speed out of it. Sure American muscle is nice and all, but give a LX Protege some time and money, and you can have the same result. It's all a matter of how much heart you have and apparently you are lacking that toward your Protege so it is no surprise that you are complaining about it. Owning a car is just like being in a relationship, what you put in is what you get out of it. Next time I suggest doing some research before you buy a car and maybe you will be happier.

              lets see...
my dad and i own a 1965 Mercedes 190d which is a beautifully restored example of late fifties/early sixties car design.
My dad drives a 2001 Volkswagen Passat GLX V6 Five speed with wood, 6 disk changer, every option.
My uncle drives a 2003 Jaguar XJR.
              My uncle drives a 2003 volvo v70
i could go on for pages like this. and in every respect the protege has similiar, if not superior interior materials and build quality. and high fifteens on a 14 year old family sedan with a four cylinder and no engine work is good. in fact its damned impressive. can you list 10 people you know with an american car more than 10 years old with a four cylinder that is in perfect running order, let alone running fifteens?

Also, I'd like to mention my mom has a 92 explorer, OH YEAH LEATHER. My dad has an 86 bronco, with POWER WINDOWS. MY unlce drives an 86 corolla and that has an automatic transmission! So yeah, I've been around a lot of nice fancy, high priced cars but I still think the protege is a great car, not quite as good as the escort GT but eh, what can you do! lol

Alright everyone, that's enough. I ask that the moderator lock this thread since it has wondered way off topic and is no longer of any helpful use.

before you lock the thread id like to say my peace to this... foolish upstart

you say get another car, obviously you didnt read well, im selling a perfectly good eclipse so i can put money into my protege.

you say we get owned by any/all v8's and most v6's, why dont you ask BoostedPro how many v6's and v8's he looses to.

let me ask you something, your name is 1967 cutlass, so obviously your a supporter of restoration. why is it that it is ok for people to restore a camaro, a mustand, a t-bird, or in my case a Corvair, but when i want to restore a car that has been so very good to me, that i have ALMOST DIED IN, that i have been through so much in, you take issue with this? as if because its not cool (to you) or even very pretty (to you) that its unfathomable that i would want to invest in its restoration? my car gave me (and ill spell this out so you can understand it better) TWO HUNDRED AND SIXTY THOUSAND MILES before i needed to replace the engine, and that was the first major thing i ever had to fix. i would love it so much if you could just show me a domestic that goes that long, i mean really, i dare you, PROVE ME WRONG.

and my final comments have been saved for the way you have come into our community, of people who love this car, and blatantly insult us to our faces. ive skimmed thru a few other online car communities and i have never seen one full of so many people as helpfull and nice as the ones on these boards.

you go buy your acura ledgend ( ) and after your done getting groceries for your mom in it, we will go race k?

                          So his engine he goosed
                          With much too much boost,
