    Who else but me thinks that its effin awesome that you can no lock yourself out of a first gen protege no matter how you try! lol also should i name my car the black bandit (name because all black with blank bandanna hanging in the rear view) or the bat mobile (bat man is my fav super hero )

      You're supposed to lift the door handle, with the door lock pressed down, while closing the door, for it to lock.

          It's one of those less talked about features that we enjoy. I know I've found it useful on a few occasions.

            i know right because once i had my keys on my seat and i was doing something and thought it was in my pocket and i locked it went in the store a half hour went to grab my keys and flipped out when it wasn't in my pocket and went up to my car just to see my doors unlocked lol and to the tard who thought i was a spammer :-P

                              'Sides, you shore's hell *can* lock yerself outta a 1stgen protege, I've seen me do it.
                              Went to a car show, got to sit in an Elise-which took some doing, and when I left and got to my car, couldn't help but notice that the key which was in me back pocket had found the strain to be more than it could bear. It's damn difficult to use a key what's been busted in half.
