Well this is confusing. My radiator doesn't leak after all. I took it to the shop and they submerged it and filled it with compressed air and nothing came out. Maybe it was my upper hose. I don't know. I bought a new thermostat, gasket, lower hose and cap, and ordered a new upper hose which should arrive tomorrow. I have already replaced my ancient perforated heater hoses.
My problem is that it doesn't want to circulate coolant. Now that it's full, I can idle it to operating temperature and it won't overheat, but the upper radiator hose stays cold. Before I flushed and filled the system it would boil out the reservoir after I parked it. Recently it had also started overheating on the highway until it felt like stopping on its own for a while. I took the water pump out to see if the impeller was seperating from the shaft, but it was fine. This whole thing is very mysterious. Any ideas?1990 Protege 4WD
