I found out that my 323 can walk a stock LX. (stock 8v B6, cone filter that came on the car and no muffler because it rusted off) I was pleasantly surprised. We weren't really "racing" and didn't get crazy. Just a quick 2nd gear pull.
a healthy running 323 1.6 with some added timing. is pretty damn competitive with a BP. which says alot considering.

Considering the 323 is 300lbs lighter and only has 20 ft/lbs difference...I'd believe it in 1st or 2nd gear, especially if you both started from a low RPM lol. Your 8v makes more TQ at 2,500rpm than the BP does!

Considering how much the B6 is put down around here, it's no wonder I'm surprised (and quite satisfied) by it. If we were actually doing a pass at a strip, he would totally have the legs to beat me, so I'm not that special. It just feels good to know my turd isn't that big of one.

Personally I'd try to boost the b6 lol, would be simple with the proper flange and some welding

yo nerds- ZX2 temp gauge fluctuates a bit, like between 1/4-1/2 or whatever, heat is unspectacular. apparently it had the heater core replaced last year.

first thought is that there's some air in the cooling system, but is there something else I should check too?

ZX2s are known for having coolant fluctuations like that, I replaced the t-stat and bled the system countless times on my ex's car and it'd still drop while you were moving around, but go back to norm at idle lol

Speaking of cooling and ZX2, keep an eye on that plastic T-stat housing on the side of the head. After some heat and miles, they tend to develop cracks.

so that's basically gonna be normal then? what about the heat though?

also, I'll take a look at the t-stat housing next time I work on the car, the car isn't leaking any coolant though

Try burping the system, it could have air in it. Otherwise maybe look at blocking off a section of the rad to raise the temp a bit, especially in the colder months.

ford .. look for vac assist problems for the fresh air flap . put the front end up on ramps to get the rad higher and burp the system as Jack mentioned

While my gauge stays around 1/4 when it's cold out, and around 1/3-1/2 when it's warm out, I have no issues with my zx2's heater. I mean, it isn't as warm as my old 323's, but it's still warm enough to make me turn the heat down on long drives becuase it get's so hot. Your zx2 shouldn't be too different, so I'm also guessing your zx2 has some air in the coolant system.

And for those saying the b6 is ok torque wise, it sort of reminded me of the ford 1.9. They are both more undersquare designs compared the the bp, which helps make low end torque, which is what you want for 2nd gear pulls at low speeds. My old pony could pull pretty hard at lower speeds. The problem was when you got going faster. It didn't have the high rpm power the bp had, and that's where it got beat. Same with b6.

Anyways, I fixed the exhaust leak it has had for a while now. Turns out that the gasket I just put on a while back for the down pipe was already blown out. It was a cheap one, though. This time I went with a fel pro gasket. Hopefully it won't happen again.
