      huh.

      is that why every 3G I've driven has that annoying "a/c compressor just turned on" skip every so often when you have the HVAC controls on anything other than off?

        UDP= problems solved
        Yeah zx2's have and issue with cooling too much. If you live somewhere where its cold stick a piece of cardboard in front of the rad I have covered up to 95% of the rad in very cold weather an it has NEVER gone over 1/2 on the gauge. I usually have %40-%50 of the rad covered every day with no problems. (Its been in temps of up to ~+5°c so far with no issue) it helps get it up to and maintain normal operating temps which it better for it and theoretically will get better fuel milage.

          UDP for what, the crank? I hate that ****, so I suppose I can put in the effort to swap a pulley.

            Yeah on the crank. It will spin the a/c compressor slower so it won't load the engine up as much when it kicks in. And it will turn your water pump slower as well which may help with the overcooling. I would suggest a odp for the alt. If you put a real small one on the crank. I'm running the smallest UDP there is (made by a teamzx2 member(powder) aka a "powder pulley" ) which is ridiculously small and with a odp on the alt it is just barely enough to keep charging at idle. But a reg UDP shouldn't be a problem.

              PS my a/c still works fine even with that small of a udp, and I nor anyone that I know of have had a overheating problem.

                managed to get the front swaybar swapped without completely dropping the subframe. only to find myself lightly cross-threading the passenger bolt hole for the swaybar bracket
                Also managed to tear off my intake manifold & injector harness- which apparently needs to be rewired.... yet again

                  That's the Ford HVAC system for you! The AC will kick on periodically to keep it from seizing, and to keep the interior fog free. I found the "foot" setting was the only setting where the AC didn't come on at all. Try it with yours, it might work.

                  ALSO if you ever have an issue where you have no fan control or AC, giggle the connector for the blower motor under the passengers dash, it'll be right at the front top part of the blower, apparently the plug likes to melt and fall off lol

                    Its supposed to only engage the compressor when in defrost to help clear moisture inside the car and lubricate the the compressor in the winter months. Shouldnt come on at other times unless Ford had a different strategy for 3rd gens.

                    My 2nd gen did the same thing at the blower connector. Went to the junk yard and grabbed a good pigtail and spliced it in, made sure it engaged nice and tight on all the connectors and filled the connectors with dielectric grease. No problems since then for me.

                    Its obviously just a poor contact/high resistance problem, and once it starts building carbon on the contacts, it just gets worse.

                      I honestly think that's how the 3rd gens are with their HVAC system lol, it always kicked the compressor on in any setting other than the floor, or "off" obviously lol.

                      Could have been an issue with this specific HVAC, but I remember reading the manual about the AC system and floor was the only setting it didn't activate iirc.

                        That is correct, ac is only inactive on floor. I would assume this is due to the fact that we have no button to turn ac on or off, so it is just automatically always on, unless you put it on floor which only makes sense to use when wanting heat only. An of course ac helps with defog, which is why it turns on in that selection. I really wish that ford would have squeezed that one button for ac in when they designed the HVAC system, would have been a lot nicer.

                          Also on the subject of the connector, I would highly recommend putting some dielectric grease in there as a preventive measure to keep it from corroding.

                            Just a clarification. His screen name is Powder, not Power.

                            I just wish Powder would do another group buy. Right now the only way to get one is buy a used one, and I don't want to do that. If he doesn't do one soon, I'm going to have to buy either an esslinger, or massive speed one. But I'd much rather have the powder pulley because it's so small.
