    someone stole my rear disc conversion.... but other than that tomorrow i am going to look at a protege thats auto. the guy told me that it has transmission problems but it has low mileage. my guess is that it might be something small. what are the common problems for the automatics?

            New front brakes today. The pedal travel/feel is still less than confidence instilling even after a bleed and re-bleed, but they bite like nobody's business thanks to the Axxis ULT pads. I guess I'll just live with it.

              Replaced the driver power window assembly with an aftermarket oem like replacement jobber. Quality was much better than I was expecting for the $70 price point. Driver window rolls up in 4 seconds now, the time it was taking it to roll down previously. and 1/3 the time it was taking to roll up.

              Quality of life improved.

                punched myself in the nose when one of my sway bar links broke instead of loosening.

                replaced the other three without issue.

                    I usually hope they snap when they're OE lol, easier to replace them with Energy Suspension stuff never broke one from ES yet.

                      **** caught me by surprise, I had the whole sway bar out a month or so ago and didn't have a problem with them then

                      Yeah, I had to take the die cutter to one to help get it out but that wasn't a big deal. The whole thing would have been a million times easier with stock suspension I think. I went with Raybestos pro grade S/R replacement **** because it was cheap and I don't care.

                      =====

                      Ball joints are tomorrow, hopefully that goes well. The nut and bolt design holding them to the knuckle seems kinda stupid, don't the 2G Escorts/1G Pros use a threaded bit on the knuckle?

                      Also it literally JUST dawned on me that I could have bought RX7 jams instead of Escort stuff. Goddammit.

                        No, the protege/egt ball joints use the nut/bolt. I like it, it makes it easier to remove IMO.

                          Was kinda hoping it was threaded on one side so I could cheat to get the thing apart like when I did Mazda 3 struts. I never replace these things, is it simple enough to do with hand tools or what? FWIW they appear to have been replaced before...

                            Should need a 17mm socket and 1/2" ratchet, along with a 17mm wrench in case you need it. I think the pinch bolt is 12-14mm and you will need a screwdriver to put on the end of the bolt to drive it out and a small sledge hammer would help if the ball joint stud is sticky.
