Ordered a ES stabilizer linkage bushing, as I have two big metal washers holding mine on at the tranny.

I also received my oem MSP shifter. Can I heat the ball on that one like our oem shifter and move it up?

Assessed the bumper in the light today, it's worse than I thought, but likely repairable. I've got to get a different daily driver on the road.

What did I do today??? hmmm.... How about bought it and picked it up! Yes, it's a zx2, so it's not a mazda, but it's still a bg, so I figure I'd share anyways. (I just don't know if I should go as far as starting a worklog. What do you guys think? A ford escort zx2 worklog on this site, or leave it for the ford sites?) The car itself is in excellent shape besides the fire damage. There are no rust holes anywhere, and there is just minor surface rust on few seams under the car. But it will come right off with light sanding. This is highly unusual for a car that has lived it's entire life in WI! And it has just 72,000 miles.

As you will see below, the car has some fire damage. Plans are to get a parts car with a blown motor or really rusted out, swap those parts onto my '03, and then put all the stock parts back on. The turbo will have to go on some time in the future. I just don't have the time or the money to get the car running correct with the turbo. (it would need to be tuned, and I'd have to make up a downpipe, as the old owner was running a dump right out of the turbo. And yes, it sounded awesome like that. But no, I can't run it like that, due to emissions laws in my county. He didn't have to worry about that stuff, as his county doesn't test. I wish ours didn't either, as it's a huge hassle. In fact, I almost didn't buy the car just because of that. The car already has the following mods: 2.5" stainless exhaust by trubendz, B&M short shifter, blacked out headlights (at least it had them. Now it only has one. The other one is a pile of melted plastic.), T28 turbo mounted on a focus svt tubular manifold, custom piping, an intercooler, civic half radiator, and an sct tuner. Potential future mods: lowering springs (the zx2s sit WAY to high!), energy suspension polyurethane bushing kit, 205/55R15 tires, smoked fog and marker and tail lights, better set of seats, 4 wheel disc conversion with braided stainless hoses, exhaust cutout, and maybe a better clutch, as this one's stock. But first I gotta fix it, and thats going to take a LONG time! I don't even know if I will have it done this summer. But it will be worth it. I want a car that not only is quick, I want it to look good as well. And I want something fuel efficient, and something I can find parts for in the local junkyards. There aren't any more 323's or escort gt's or protege lx's in the junkyards, as there aren't any more of those around anymore.

Anyways, here are a few pics:

Car doesn't run. Wiring is all messed up. And to be honest, he didn't want me to get this one either because of the work. But he admits it will make a good car when it's finished. The miata was out of the question because of winter months. He said if I want a miata, I'd have to move out of the house. And I'm not planning on doing that just yet. Besides, I would rather have the zx2 because of it's condition. The miata would have required just as much work, if not more work, as it would have needed paint, and the engine wasn't running. And these zx2's are easy to find parts for.

What did I do today? Figured out my radiator situation... Turns out an MX6 rad fits very nicely for a KL swap on these things. It fits better than the MX3 one I had initially done. Then I started installing the turbo. The AVC boostwerx kit is nice, I must say, but it did require a BFH in two places... (no fault to the design, as it was meant to go in a Probe, not a Tracer) The first being the cross member, which required a 2" section to be clearanced about 1/2" for the hot pipe that comes from the back three cylinders. The second BFH was on the drivers frame rail, just about 1/4" inward clearance in a 1" section. This was to allow a coupler to fit over the compressor outlet, since the compressor outlet initially was sandwiched against the frame rail.

I then started to mock-up the charge piping and intercooler, and got a decent amount of work done on that.

Still have quite a bit to do to finish it, but I feel june 10th is a realistic goal. To manage IAT's EGT's and overall underhood temps, I am probably going to run Water-Methanol injection, and definitely E85. The goal is around 260 WHP to start.
