Did a whole bunch of detail stuff today. I was in a panic to fix the cigar lighter, as I am going on an epic cruise to Niagra Falls next weekend. I am not so good with direction and I NEED GPS. I had a bright idea to hard wire the GPS plug cause the cigar adapter kinda blocks the cup holder. I used the USB update cord for my project. The update cost more then a new GPS, so why not? This ended with a blown up GPS...face palm.....I actually had it figured out which wires powered up the unit and accidently shorted it out with the volt meter leads. My Girl friend did not trust me with the new GPS she picked up shopping, so I fixed the cigar lighter, it ended up being just a fuse, as a bonus I now have a clock in the cluster that I was unaware of LOL, Kool 90's green digital (MX-3 cluster). I hate my stereo, so not having to touch it to see the time is a big bonus. The stereo is much too complicated for an old guy. I was thinking about buying a period correct stereo, then I would have base, treble and volume, insted of accidently changing the display color to pink, or reversing the polarity of the sub and my favorite mistake changing the display launguge to Spanish. Using the remote helps, as touching it usually ends badly.

The passenger door had some issues from day one. The interior door handle did not work, it was just the clip on the rod, I grabbed one from the parts car. The passenger window looked like someone skated on it, so I replaced it with one from the parts car too.

I could not figure out the ECM covers so they were left off. It looked kinda getto, so I took the console apart on the parts car and found there is suposed to be a bracket under the ECU for the covers to snap into. It looks much better.

I replaced a fuel line that goes to the fuel rail, it was new when the car was built, but it was all cracked and nasty looking. I am thinking under hood heat cooked it, going to look into heat wrap for that line. The nitrous system problem ended up being some crap in the nitrous line, I blew out the line into a coffee can, some rusty bits, likely from the nitrous fill station compressor, or nitrous suppy bottle flew out.

I did not like the way the fuel pump replacement sock fit and it was bugging me, so I replaced it with the stock sock. On closer inspection it's fittment issue was really all in my head LOL.

Last on my nagging detail list was a faulty pop out quarter window hinge. It is opposite broken now LOL. It used to not stay open, now with the hinge from the parts car it does not close right. Time for a new one!

Thanks for the tip, I'll inspect the connector today. Luckily I also grabbed the pigtail from the donor car I got the new sensor from so if the connector is acting up, I have a replacement on standby

So many black specks came out of the fuel filter, hoping this fixes my random hesitation issues.

Still getting the check engine light for a coolant sensor. I've already replaced the sensor, not sure what to do next
fixed that for ya .. you had me wondering why you had a battery on the back seat

I fixed a boost leak that I caused sometime recently by messing around with my BOV. Also took out the whistling fins, so it's a lot quieter now. Took it for a quick drive to confirm no more boost leak, got home and noticed my back up lights stopped working. Must have snagged a wire moving charge pipes around. I'm going to deal with that another day.

Had my first experience with the goo that Water Wetter can cause. Pressure tested my radiator cap today and found it. I freaked at first thinking I blew another head gasket, but there was no other evidence of that. Then I remembered reading about the goo. Looks weird, but was not there two weeks ago.

Got the parts I need off one and sold it, and started dissasembling my '94 protege because I'm scrapping it out. So far I have the bumpers, deck lid, doors, fenders, and hood removed, and most of the wiring harness is loose, and most of the engine/transmission mount bolts are loose. All I gotta do are remove a few more screws to get the dash out so that I can pull the harness out, and then pull a few bolts out and pullt he motor and trans. Then I'll be cutting the door skins off the door shells and throwing the shells back in the car, along with the doors, fenders, hood, and decklid off my race car. I figure I might as well use the panels on the car I'm scapping out, as they are in much better shape than the ones that are on my race car. Plus I can shed some unwanted weight because my protege still has all it's door hinges and latches and shells on it. I will be removing all that junk and jest weld the door skins onto the car so that I can get it even lighter than it already is.

My door panels are falling apart and its getting very hard to find door panels for power windows anymore. Tried to mount a ZX2 charcoal/black door panel today but it was a no go. The panels are close, but far enough off it would still be too much work plus it protrudes into the car far enough it touches the side of the seat and just looks totally out of place. Oh and ZX2 rear seat bottoms will work, but the top wont because the latch is in the wrong spot.

Does anyone have any hookups to get the laser door panels pictured below? If not I may try to find some 323 door panels to test fit and see if they work.

No Escort stuff today, but did pull the drivetrain out of a '73 Nova to be transplanted into another better one tomorrow...If I had A/C, the sort would have been my transportation; like to show it off.

HOLE EEE ****! Just finished the wagon (again) and wow!

For those who do not know, I spun a rod bearing in my first KL, within 180miles of driving it. I believe it was spun when I acquired it from the junkyard as the first time I started the motor it had a light tick, which gradually over 180 miles grew into the familiar racket of a spun rod bearing. Also, at the time, the only curved neck manifold I had, or k manifold in general actually, was a wimpy K8 manifold... It was quick, and way better than the old 2.0 sohc SPI, but not so quick that it blew my socks off.

Now I have a proper Millenia Manifold on top of a proper Millenia Engine, out of an '02 actually! It's there now! I am now fully appreciative of why the KL swap is so desirable! The K8 mani had been portmatched to the KLDE, but I now feel the difference of how ****ty they actually flow... Plus I think the other motor was low on compression, but either way, It's good now! Don't be a retard, K8 manifolds are garbage!

I still am running without the turbo until after I get it E-tested and licensed... Then it will truly be knock-your-socks-off-fun, but even now it spins second!

I'm taking it to the track tomorrow (actually today, ****, it's 1 AM) for an event called "Street Wars" Basically a bragging rights, heads up drag race, without eliminations... It draws out a crowd, and all the top cars will be there, so hopefully I can spank some of the other all-motor sport compacts, and earn some "respect..." Well that, and the whole "WTF is this car? It sounds so mean, but I don't think I've ever seen one of these!" Heck, maybe I will steal the show from another R33 skyline! That was fun! It was the day after I supercharged the Green EGT.

Anyway, BIG thanks to everyone on CP.com, and a few of the other forums that I frequent! If it weren't for these forums and the people that belong to them, I probably would have never even thought of putting a KL in my Mercury Tracer station wagon!

Oh and I am going to get some video at the track tomorrow to repay everyone here who has contributed to the knowledge-base which aided me in getting this thing built!

                            Thanks again!

sold my last escort pony. Now I'm only $50 away from having enough money to buy the '99 zx2 I have been looking at to use as a parts car.

Also, I skinned the doors I took off the protege (ground the seams off and took the door skins) and attempted to scrap out the shells, but they said that because it has the windows still in the shells I couldn't scrap them....

                                Also, I need some opinions.

Does anybody think my car will be to flimsy if I just welded the door skins onto the race car, and not have the door assembly? (as in, just having sheet metal over the door openings.) I'd remove the hinges and everything. I just don't want the car to be "too" weak. But I have a roll cage, so I'd think that would make up for this. But I thought I'd ask everyone's opinions on this, to see everyone's opinions.
