We run both dirt and asphalt. Today was asphalt. And we don't run stock size tires because tires are how we gear the car for each track. Longer tracks means larger (larger in diameter) tires, short tracks require as short a tire as we can legally run. Today was short track, so we tried to get a short tire to work. And it did, until the car got wrecked....

It's pretty bad this time..... We don't know if it's worth fixing.... My grandpa was doing pretty well, and had one of the faster cars out there, and was just taking his time, saving the car for the end for the race (Thats when it really counts) when someone's car stalled out and the guy cut in front of my grandpa to get off the track. The guy was going 5 mph and my grandpa was going 70 mph.... Needless to say, it caused some MAJOR damage.... The right front wheel took a major hit. In fact, it hit so hard that the axle snapped and then the axle went THROUGH the oil pan! Yes, through it! $50 worth of Redline oil was laying all over the track..... And now the front wheel is against the firewall... Pictures of it right after the wreck:Click image for larger version

Then we had to leave it on the track for the rest of the race due to the rules. It becomes an obstacle for racers to go around, and someone got a bit too close to my car. The passenger side door and fender got nailed. It cracked the windshield and pushed the door into the door bars. Here are pics of that damage, as well as my $50 oil, and a picture or two of the axle in the oil pan. Click image for larger version

Man, racing sucks some times... Now thats two cars wrecked in two races. Hopefully the escort lx will hold up next race, as that what he's running. It's the only race car we have that isn't wrecked..... Maybe it might do ok if i do a few things to it like swap in the H.O. header from the 1st gen escort with a straight pipe, as well as a 2.0 spi throttle body (larger than stock 1.9 throttle body), and maybe quick make an underdrive pulley on my other grandpa's lathe. But that won't be for a while yet, as the race is a month away.

Thats what I say. I hate the rule. It's already wrecked my car to many times to count, as the dirty racers try and slam you into the parked cars to total you out. The promotor "thinks" it brings fans in because 300 laps can get boring to watch without a little suspense. But in reality, all it does is hurt the car count. The same amount of people show up each race no matter what. Some guys only have one car to race, and if it gets wrecked, thats it. They're done. So each time one of those cars gets wrecked, we lose a racer for a while.

This rule used to be used back in the early days of enduro racing. (in the '70s and '80s.) Back then, there were over 200 full size cars racing at once, and it was almost impossible to get wrecked cars off the track, as the push trucks couldn't get to them, as there were so many cars in the way. But that was then. Now we only have 70 cars (100 on the best days.), and there's room for the push trucks to get the wrecked ones off the track. The only legit reason I think he's still doing it is to save the cost of renting push trucks everywhere we go.

Here is a video of how bad it can get on the track. It will start right at the spot that shows how bad it is..... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WGKUFzWZ8gQ&t=6m32s And that isn't even the worse it's ever been. It sucks...

Fixed my oil drain issue...such a pain to have two difference sizes to connect...the oil pan was setup for this specific turbo too which makes it even more annoying lol. So I cut/welded/hammered out a new one today and all seems good now.

Cleaned up the oil mess under the car in hopes it may not be my oil pan as well lol...but it may be leaking where the downpipe wraps around the pan lol...hopefully not...

gassed it up and figured out I got 41.25 mpg with my zx2! Thats a new record for me! 175/65R14 tires pumped to 50 psi, drafting everything I could, always having the windows closed, and driving with a VERY light right foot all added up. I wanted to see what it could do if I did all that, and now I found out. Now, back to my normal driving style.
