Ah ha! A teaching moment. When diagnosing almost any problem, start at the beginning. Use Occams Razor to find the beginning. If no start no crank, start at the battery. You have learned this here, apply it to the next issue. This will save much hassle, hairpulling, and money. It's only taken a mere couple decades to start figuring this out for myself.

Annnndd... I thought this was a dead thread, but NO. Instead the car is dead; AGAIN. This morning was a cold morning (moderate flurries! on Nov.1), and I have relocated the car to my house (car has been working, and it has been used for short trips, even two days ago).

After one "half crank" attempt at starting, the second and subsequent attempt yields nothing: no crank, no nothing. Battery voltage showing 12V; fuses appear to be intact (e.g., main 80A fuse, which was recently replaced is fine). *sigh*
Don't even know how to access the terminals on the alternator; how to pry off the cover?
Don't even know where the starter is, much less how to troubleshoot it.

Whoever can point me in the right direction will have good "carma." Thank you in advance.

follow the + battery cable down under the intake manifold to the starter. Assuming the battery terminals are tight, I spect you will find a startermotor at the other end of said + cable, complete with a finger tight terminal, a dead solenoid, a fried motor, or some combination of all the above.

Disconnect the battery before you try to tighten the starter connection. Just sayin'.
