okay... go to the junkyard and find the following cars:
GD probe/mx6
GE probe/mx6
4 lug and 5 lug BJ proteges
GF 626
and compare all the mounting points for the brake calipers... you're mainly concerned with what will bolt to the BJ spindles. you should be able to use a BJ 4 cyl spindle by simply machining down the strut mounting point to the correct thickness. the 4 and 5 lug variants use the same wheel bearing as the BG so you should be able to put the BG hubs into the 5 lug BJ spindles if that ends up being the required combination.
bear in mind that we know that the GD caliper brackets will adapt subaru calipers to GD or BA spindles. you may need a different mounting bracket (GE? GF? BJ?) to adapt it to the BJ spindle. compare the distance between the mounting pins on the caliper brackets, and also the diameters, perhaps by trying to put a GD caliper on a GE/GF/BJ/etc.
its just a big mess of ideas really, i couldnt find any useful data regarding the required dimensions online.

i dont know, thats the thing. they should be damn close, since BJ's arent that much larger than BG's, so the steering shouldnt get too screwed up unlike if you were to use a 626 spindle.Escort GTR -- 11.87 @ 117.6 mph -- 320 HP / 325 Ft. Lbs. @ 23 PSI

hey my threads alive again...woo hoooo
yes GD mazda brake brakets fit Subi 2pot brakes...and i think you can use the BJ SP20/23 hubs with GD brackets and with a bit of work to make them fit the BG struts and arms..they have some good brakes already. just a large single pot..but again are 5 stud... the 4 stud ones im not sure on...you might be in luck using the USDM gear good luck and keep us informed

the biggest issue that i forsee is having to machine down the part where the strut bolts up... i believe its 10mm thicker. not like that would be a difficult task for a machine shop though.Escort GTR -- 11.87 @ 117.6 mph -- 320 HP / 325 Ft. Lbs. @ 23 PSI

I had a complete 03 MAZDASPEED Protege (BJ) brake setup with big front brakes and rear disk brakes, and e-brake cables and master cylinder and yadda yadda yadda. I had them on the bench next to the escort parts and it will indeed bolt up if you went with adjustable links in the rear and played with different ball joint and tie rod end combinations. BUT the geometry is WAY off. The front would put the car about an inch or so higher (based on the hub center in relation to the ball joint, the steering "arm" or whatever you call it was about an inch too high, an inch to long, and I beleive it was pushed out to far from the steering rack to safely use an escort tie rod end. Ackerman explained
I consulted a machinist friend of mine who is also the crew chief/fabricator for a very successfull SCCA race team (he designs/builds all of the suspension components for the race car). I asked him if I could some how compensate for all of this with adjustable springs, bumpsteer kits, custom tie rod ends, etc etc. And the response was that I would need to make my car longer and wider as well as use all the above mentioned bandaids for my car to perform properly with those parts.... and thats not even getting into the back brakes.
If it made any sense at all, I would have 5 lugs per hub and some really sweet brakes on my car right now. To further my point. I can purchase the 5 lug wheels that I want brand new in the proper offset for around $400... I will have about $1000 into an old set of the exact same wheels in 4x100's that I'm refurbishing and will require custom centering rings, $120 worth of spacers, and about 20+ hours worth of sanding/preping/painting. A 5 lug setup would have saved me a few gray hairs and about a months rent.Last edited by Georonimo; 03-23-2008, 01:38 PM.

I also had a set of second generation MX6 brakes on hand when I was looking into this and they're pretty much the same as the BJ stuff in relation to the BG components.
