      he got flamed pretty hard.
I think he went to a carshow in maryland back in like june. His back doors were welded shut/shaved and the welds/bondo was cracking pretty bad
I live my life a quarter pounder at a time. And for those 500 calories or more, I'm free. I need FRIES! Two of them. The big ones. Oh, and I need them tonight. You're lucky the double shot of BBQ sauce didn't blow the seam on your nugget box. There she is, 2 pounds of pure beef. My dad ate it in 9.0 seconds flat. Check it out, it's like this. If I lose, winner takes my happy meal. But if I win, I take the burger and the toy. To some people, that's more important.

Ouch. That hurts. It's pretty tough to try to turn a 4dr into a 2dr. I'd have to grab a 323 or escort gt before trying to do that.

in that thread he starts with a good idea, but decides looks are beyond function, and doesn't listen to a few structural suggestions and it becomes a flame war. As long as people take serious suggestions seriously, and not hostile, any project can turn out great. I personally think a bagged protege is crazy, since there isn't alot of room to tuck, but with the right setup (rim size, PROPER attachment of bags) one can achieve a great ride without sacrificing functionality.

I'd love to see properly bagged Protege, just because its different. who cares what the motor or drivetrain is, its about the air suspension in this case. if you're going to make it look good, make it look GREAT. don't take shortcuts just to get it done sooner.

soo, to Aftermath: Do it. we here currently at CP are much more forgiving about stupid mistakes than a lot of the older members. We just want to see something new and fresh.
No car! I soldz it. Now I have a truck. I like it, but apparently it has a hard time keeping up with a slightly modified 4WD protege with half the hp. Neat.

I just viewed that thread for the first time and all I can say is holy schneike!! I guess you have to learn somewhere? IMO he should have put some more thought into devising a plan and researching parts rather than just going all gung ho on it.

You can't just fab up some brackets and slap a bag on top of your strut.. it just will not work unless you are going to gut the strut tower and rebuild it..
there are clearence issues.. it's not like removing the front springs on an S-10 and slapping a bag in it's place.

You will have to use air cylinders such as the ones used in this Civic application.

Taking pictures of the stock struts and sending them to a knowledgeable supplier would be a good place to start. They would be able to set you up with the kit that would require the least amount of modification to fit to the 1st gen Pro. If done right, you could acheive great functionality and a decent ride... Personally, I would never bag a unibody but to each his/her own. If you want to bag something, get a S-10 cheap and use it to learn on. If you pick a good running S-10 that isn't rusted out and you sucessfully bag it you will have a blasty blast!! Bags just aren't as functional on a front wheel drive unibody car.. IMO it is a waste of time and money. Did I mention $?

My people and I have bagged many award winning show vehicles and there are still several bagged low lows in our clan... so if you want to bag a 1st gen I'll respect it and help out with advice as much as possible.

Check out this video of the Lowrider Magazine verified 1st 3-wheel on air... in my high school parking lot!!! I was filming (can't miss that laugh) and you can see my Regal in the footage.

Sorry about the MySpace... i thought I had it uploaded to http://www.youtube.com/martiniac but it is not there yet. Check out those vids and I will get it up there soon enough.

Back to the Sonoma... We took that truck to spring break in Fort Meyers a couple weekends later.. Nobody ever taught me how to take risks and have fun!!

            Good Luck!!

thanks guys...after reading that thread i can actually see the clearance issues he ran into. I have bagged SEVERAL rides..mostly trucks and never a strut car. But im thinking I will use SMC air strokes (cylinders) they are a lil easier to install in tight places and you can do a cool standing dogleg... Ill keep you guys posted.

arent bags differne't than air struts? I want to do a setup similar to the wrx. and have a DD setting, a touring setting, and a race setting. each setting changes the height of the car and i think changes stiffness also. it would work amazing for my awd mx-3

How stiff can a air strut be?
Only seems to me that it can be stiff if its all the way up with a high pressure in there

you know it is surprising that with so many people in this world of such narrow sight that we still have leaps in technology, oh yee of little faith check this stuff out:

i want to find a way to retro fit a system like this to my mx-3

If you are referring to SI drive in the 08 WRX it does nothing with the suspension. It simply adjusts the throttle sensor for quicker reaction. Some guys are trying to figure out way to tie it to boost and have multiple boost maps via the SI drive knob. Some even want to tie it to the Cobb accessport and change entire maps, but nothing in the system touches suspension.
