    Master Cylinder Upgrades

    Hey Guys,

I remember reading about MC upgrades, 929 being one on them but also MX3, not sure, is this correct? I'm having trouble finding that thread. If anyone has anything bookmarked about it can you please post the link.

    Thanks, Steve

I remember the 969 and Millenia being an upgrade, but it's not that big of one. Ours is 7/8" and the 'upgrade' is 1". Have you upgraded calipers or anything like that? If you haven't i wouldn't bother. SS brake lines and some decent pads will do you justice.

I've done the EGT front swap but not the rear yet. I don't have ss lines just rubber, and they have been there for a few years. The rest of the lines have been changed.

Ever since I bought the car, brakes haven't been the greatest. I have changed the master for an identical oem one but still the same thing. I'm starting to think that the booster is bad. The car does have 420,000 kms so I guess its possible. Is it something that is fairly common to go?

The one thing that I do notice is when I apply the brakes and pull the parking brake a little the car stops amazing. Is it common for the proportioning valve to go?

How is the prop valve biased, percentage basis to the rear.

      Thanks, Steve

It's a differential valve, the pressure applied to the front is affected by the pressure to the rear, and if your e-brake is not adjusted properly, you won't have the proper bias.

        escort/protege/323 MC is 7/8", the MX-3 and some later-gen proteges are 15/16", and the 929 is 1".

for drums, you don't need to adjust the ebrake, it shouldn't affect the brakes. ****ty brakes is the reason why I upgraded for MX3 V6 stuff, booster and MC. pedal feels much stronger, even though it's a tiny piston diameter difference. I would recommend doing it, but you will need to swap the rear for discs first. You also need the prop valve from the MX3 V6.

I have a spare V6 MC with the bottle for manual tranny. PM if interested or for other questions

What year 929 and another thing what would be the best set up for all the brake parts if you were to do a lot of visiting to the junk yard cause I was thinking of putting on rear discs on my DX and changing the MC and brake calipers.
