I'm having a tough time diagnosing an unusual vibration in the right front. Does anyone have ideas or suggestions?
1994 Protege DX with BP swap. Mods in sig.
Symptoms:
When I load up the right side (turn hard to the left), I get a vibration that feels like I have a flat tire that is about to tear itself from the rim (though this is obviously not the problem). It happens only under hard cornering to the left. Street driving is fine, but if I'm on the roadcourse or blasting up a highway on-ramp, the vibration is very noticeable.
The vibration does not exactly translate into steering wheel vibration, though I can feel some looseness through the wheel.
The vibration is not speed, gear, or load dependent.
What I've tried so far:
3 different sets of wheels and tires
3 different ball joints (original, known good spare, and new)
2 axles (original and new)
2 spindle/wheelbearing/hub assemblies (original and known good one from another protege)
With the car assembled (regardless of the combination of parts above), there is no play or looseness in the wheel. Side-to-side and up-down wiggling of the wheel produces no play.
Bushings for that control arm were replaced late last summer (energy susp.).
Upper strut mount for that corner replaced 3 months ago.
Strut for that corner replaced last summer.
Pads and caliper new as of 2 months ago, rotor replaced 2 weeks ago.
Tie rod and tie rod end have not been replaced, but are in good shape and have no play.
Bolts for the control arm, subframe, and all suspension parts have been checked and checked again for tightness.
The car does not exhibit any other issues when cornering hard to the right, accelerating, or braking.
I am running out of ideas and open to suggestions.
