Using a Protege Power Steering Pump on a Ford

My 1991 Mercury Tracer LTS is leaking steering fluid like crazy around the spot where the high pressure line connects to the pump. It could be the pump, it could be the line, I'm not really sure. It leaks A LOT though.

I have seen that Mazdas use a different kind of connection where the high pressure line connects to the pump, so going to the JY for a pump from a Mazda wouldn't work for me.

Now, I think the other end of the high pressure line that connects the pump to the rack is the same on Fords and Mazdas. If that is true that means I should be able to swap the PS pump and the line into my Ford with no further issues.

Has anyone done this before? How hard is it going to be to break the high pressure line loose from the rack? Will anything else have to be moved out of the way to do that?

Do all BG Mazdas use the same PS pump? How about MX-3s?

why dont you just remove the power steering? just a suggestion, they're not bad to control at all

also, what special fittings are you talking about?

Change the fitting on the pump unless the fitting itself is leaking. The pumps are identical, just the fitting changes. Replace the copper washers with new ones and it shouldn't leak.
