    Front End Problems

Alright so i've been messing around with my dad's 91 LX and it is driving me mad. Every time you get on or off the gas the car does a little wiggle in the front end. Also the front end will do a little wiggle when driving straight like when cruising and I go over a bump. So far I've gone over the front end and checked the tie rods, swaybar endlinks and the hub bearings. I also just replaced the front strut asemblies (strut, springs, top hat, etc...). I'm kinda at a loss right now and am kinda in a toss up between ball joints and motor mounts. Just wanted to see if you guys had any other ideas that I might be missing.

I got the same problem and I cannot figure it out! I was thinking the tires, maybe an alignment, in my case.

Sounds like tie rods. Did you check the inner tie rods? How'd you check the outer?

welcome back indeed! whatever happened to that tarp-covered GTR motor?

check the LCA bushings. in my old escort they were worn and caused weird stuff like that.

            hey welcome back!!

i'd check bushing condition and make sure your steering rack bushings are not destroyed, you'll get a lot of play (feel like inner tie rod) if they are.

usually engine mounts will cause wheel spin and vibrations from what i've gathered.

Thanks for the warm welcome guys. Sadly the GTR is down for the winter with a blown trans, but the motor is fully operational again. But as far as this front end problem I know the swaybar bushings are shot and it's gonna need some new tires too cuz they have some unevn wear from the old struts I just replaced.

Thereildeal: Yeah, I'll have to look into that trans adapter. How is the gearing for that Toyota trans?

Deathtrigger: Yup, I'm another boosted bp...There used to be more of us but many have been sold off and don't know where they are now.

Update on the car.....got some new Bridgestone RE960 pole postions, re-painted the wheels and installed new struts/springs all around with new ball joints in the front and a wheel alignment.....WHAT A DIFFERENCE IN THE RIDE. Now I just gotta stop being lazy and do my swaybar bushings....

                        Fourth Gear Rato (:1) 0.92
                        Fifth Gear Ratio (:1) 0.73
Final Drive Axle Ratio (:1) 3.93

                        Stock BG Protege:
                        First Gear Ratio (:1) 3.31
                        Second Gear Ratio (:1) 1.83
                        Third Gear Ratio (:1) 1.31

Final Drive Axle Ratio (:1) 4.105

if you want to screw around with it you could run an MR2 final drive by either modifying the MR2 trans case or swapping the guts into a Camry trans. that final drive is like a 4.3xx, the rest of the gears are the same.

I figured the whole thing out, check out my build thread in BG Worklogs. The axles are hybrids, inner stubs from an MR2 turbo with CV axles from a celica alltrac. they fit the stock BG hubs.

I'm going to type up a full parts list and include it with the adapter plates.
