    Custom Coilover, Spring rate/lenght combo

I know I've been posting alot lately and whatever and what not, but its been bc i'm training for a job and I psned majority of the week on my ass. And I'm sorry for that.

But anyway. The purpose of this thread is for me to start doing research on the perfect front coil over spring rate, length combo.

The thing is, I'm not satisfied with the stance of my car. And 8 out of 10 times I look at it, I wish the front was lower.

    Hince, the picture:

I know the front arches are higher and all that jazz, but when it come down to it, I want the stance more raked to the front.

So what is the right, or something close to the right, front coilover, spring rate and length to get it close where I want to?

And I rather not cut the front spring and leave it be. I would love to retain a decent ride. A lil rougher in the front wouldn't kill me. Which I;m sure t would have to be to keep from bottoming out on every bump in the road. Imma have to keep a stash of 89'626 lips after that.

Just measure the length of the stock springs, get coilovers the same length and rate, and use the coilover perches to adjust ride height. Probably your quickest and least expensive solution.

The most simple idea's are right in my face most of the time. What is a good spring rate to go with?

I'm lowered on Progress springs for the mx3. 1.8 inches f/r. And how would I lift the back safety?

edit: I found that the stock spring rate is around 160lbs front and around 110lbs rear, and the Eibach Pro Springs are around 240lbs front and 165lbs rear. I know the zx2 sr's are made for the Eibach springs, and I don't want to go over their spring rate.

Does anyone with the Eibach Springs want to chime in about their daily driving characteristics?

I seriously loved the eibach springs when I had em on the car.
Nice and stiff, but not too stiff, very predictable, car always went where I told it. Never bouncy, even when goign over a few consecutive dips in the road, and the roads here are most likely the worst in north america, seriously, ask anybody that lives here :p

WilyB has my car now, I'll ask him to come give some feedback if he has a minute.

I did some reading, but what size i.d. spring does most coilover kits use? 2 or 2.5 inches?

And what is this "cutting of the perches?" I couldn't find any pics.

cutting the perches is so you could go really low and you will need adjustable coilovers to do this....

                    Pics of this?

And the coilovers has be adjustable in height. That's the main reason for me doing this.

i looked but i cant find it, ive seen pics on the forum and on a festiva in person and it goes really low....the adjustable coilovers will lower the car enough without needing to cut the perches...

hey i've tried bringing up this topic before man.

all coilover springs for our application will be 2.5" ID

you can buy a cheapo ebay kit and replace the springs with used race springs off ebay like i'm doing.

the spring perch holds the bottom of the spring to the strut, removing this and grinding the strut housing smooth will allow for different placement of the threaded collar to allow a wider range or adjust-ability (i.e. long collars).

spring specs for a setup with lower spring perches...i wouldn't go past 7" front springs and 8" rear springs...my 6" and 7" springs are almost lowered to the max and the car didn't drop more than 2".

Also for spring rate keep the front around 250-300lbs and the rear do no exceed 250lbs but don't drop past around 175.

Was that 2 inch drop with, or without the perches? And no spring longer than 7" in the front?

check my work log out i left the perches on both front and rear struts.

if you don't cut your perches you won't have much room to lower the car with anything over a 7-8" spring. that's why Ground Control gives you 300lbs 6" front springs and 200lbs 7" rear springs.

Cutting the perches would probably allow you to run 8-10" springs in the front (depending on collar placement) and 10" springs in the rear.

shoot me a pm if you want mang

I have 8" 250# front and 8" 200# rear coilover springs. My front perches are cut, but the adjustable sleeve is sitting about stock height, and my rear perches are stock. I am on S/R struts and the ride quality is excellent.

The front is about 1" from it's lowest setting, and the rear is about 2" from it's.
