    93 Protege Front Spindle Interchange

The Pull-A-Part has this neat part interchange thing on their website now, and I need two front spindles.

Is this 100% accurate before I go crazy and one not fit after I get the bearings put in?

And since all of their cars are in the air, what would be the best way to get the axle nuts off?

I am not sure your years are accurate ^^ but there was a switch in ball joint diameter and the 97 and up escorts have a larger ball joint and the 95 and up protege do for sure too. I am not sure what year BG's have the larger one. Also, the brake caliper mounts are different if they are non-GT escorts or non-LX/ES/GT protege's.

Some 91-96 non gt escorts do have the 10 inch brake spindles, mostly the later Lx cars had the larger brakes of the non gt. You just need to determine the rotor diameter. All 97 and up escorts have the large brake/ball joints. IIRC 93.5+ BG Protege have the larger ball joints.

91-96 escorts will say 22-14 on the caliper if it has the bigger brakes and 22-13 for the smaller brakes.

To get the axle nut off with it in the air, find a way to get the wheel off or jam a bar in the wheel so it hits the strut so you can remove the nuts. To get the axle nut off, take a screwdriver and stick it in one of the rotor vents and rotate it till it stops against the caliper to keep it from turning while you stand on the breaker bar.

Thanks for all the good info. I found out the hard way when I did my ball joints that I have the smaller diameter ball joints.

So I just need to see if I can find a 90-93 protege with the small ball joints, (edit) or a non-EGT (end edit), to be on the safe side, bc a lot of times, the caliper is long gone.

And thanks for the trick on how to loosen the axle nut. That one had me worried.

Can you swap the 22-14 caliper/rotor/pad combo onto the DX spindle?

the 22-14 Caliper and brake pads fits on the 22-13 spindle

Also got my spindles ( small ball joint small brakes) off a escort 91 lx that already had the engine, transmission and axles already removed and the spindles were hanging loosely from the struts. Score.

Pics. Small brake spindle ( w/out axle nut) big brake spindle ( w/ axle nut)
