zx2 rear disc brakes = BG rear disc brakes?

I'm looking for a rear disc setup for my car and after hunting the yards this weekend I only found one BG with rear discs and they were is bad shape. Sadly as we all know BG's are getting less and less common, but zx2's are all over the yards. I know the front brakes are compatible with a BG but how about the rears?
So does anyone know if a rear disc brake setup off a zx2 would fit a BG protege?

Yep it'll work just fine man! The 3rd gens have revised TTL arms as well (at least the one without the sway bar endlink mount)

I know Neuman has 3rd gen stuff for his Copper EGT/323 beauty as well.

Zx2's do not have rear disk brakes, they are drums. The zx2 s/r is the only edition that came with rear disk. They are not that common, so the chance of finding a s/r is pretty slim. A lot of zx2 guys swap rear disks from the egt.

Another option if you want rear disc is, you can get the rear disc spindles from an MX3, EGT, 3rd gen escort.

If you cant find 3rd gen calipers, just get the crappy looking EGT calipers in the yard, and buy a rebuild kit from rockauto. Its easy to rebuild calipers and far cheaper then buying rebuilds. Dont use MX3 calipers, the escort calipers have far more pad options since the pads are shared with Miatas

Buy the pads/rotors new and new parking brake cables from rockauto.

I have 1 MX3 rear disc spindle in the garage if your interested.

Ahh. Hmm, I'll have to get back to the yard and find a BG then as I thought some zx2s had rear disc. I didn't see one mx3 in the 2 yards I looked in either.

Yep, I've seen rear disks on ZX2s, sedans AND wagons before haha.

also IIRC the BHA rear end stuff swaps over as well, even the subframe, I believe someone put an EGT rear subframe in his base model BHA to get rear disks. This was a few years back, so my memory is a bit rusty lol

just to let you guys know, in case you do find either a zx2 s/r setup (rare, so I'm guessing you won't.), or an early '97 escort sedan with discs (just as rare, so guessing you won't find those either.), your rear track width will be a little wider. The 3rd gen stuff is a few mm wider than 2nd gen escort stuff. Usually the zx2 guys that use second gen egt discs in the rear use a small spacer to space out the wheel a little. S/R and sedan discs don't need those spacers, as they are the same width as the drum equiped zx2's.

Is it the 3rd gen that has the compact subframe and longer TTL arm length Brody? I thought that was BHA, but could be 3rd gen as well! Any pics of your S/R??

So the your saying the TTL's are longer or the spindle is slightly different?

Are they swapping the whole rear suspension setup when they swap to discs on a ZX2?

Wait, scratch that. I just looked up the how to, and the discs require a spacer where the lateral link bolts to the spindle. Not a wheel spacer. And from the looks of it, the spindles from the s/r and other third gen escorts don't need the spacer, as the spindles are cast wider there, so I'm guessing the spindles won't even work on a second gen without some machining.
