    strut inserts

    Hi,

I haven't been on this forum in a long time. I did a search for strut inserts but not enough info to go on.

I was wondering if there is a list of strut inserts that will fit in the strut housing? Or is the insert generic in size that it can be used for front and back of the car?

I want to try it on my mazda 323 just for the front only and use regular struts on the back.

The car is my daily driver, but I do go off road on mild terrain to have fun.

I also get brake fade only during summer time, almost rear ended a couple of times luckily had some distance, just wondering if I should change pads or is it really worth trying slotted or drilled rotors?

I can't help with strut inserts, but your brake fade issue sounds like not enough heat dissipation or capacity. What is your current brake setup?

If you have oem struts the inserts are not replaceable without some work and modification...like cutting, grinding and welding.

Standard brake setup, front disc and drum brakes on back; I was considering converting to disc on the rear but the vehicle is light weight plus drum brakes last forever to wear out. Just wondering if I should use some pvc piping to direct airflow to the brakes. As for the koni inserts; I was thinking about stopping by the wreckers and picking up some struts from a ford escort, I think the diameter tubing is a lot bigger if I'm mistaken.

koni had inserts that would fit our OEM struts. but beyond that i couldn't recall the part number.

If you email corksport they could help you with a part number

            Will do, thanks :

Bought some some protege 10.1 in slotted rotors for a good deal, I popped off the wheel off my 323 and they fit perfectly on the spindle. But I notice my caliper assembly might not fit; should I replace the caliper basket with a couple from a protege se/lx model? Will that give my sufficient clearance for the rotor? I grab the whole caliper assembly from the wrecking yard?

You're increasing the size of your brakes, correct? If so, you will need the larger calipers too. The Protege SE != LX. You will need LX/GT/4WD/EGT calipers.

Oh yes I am; Oh I found more info, that I can use my existing caliper just switch the caliper bracket to a 22v 14. I was at the junkyard today, I pulled a bracket from a 95 mx3 and pulled a complete pair from a 2001 escort zx2 as a spare backup.
