finally got another mechanic to throw the motor back in. starts up and idles well.
just need to slap back a few things like alternator, top up coolant etc.
no more oil leak from the rear main seal.

seems like theres a minor leak from the pan or somewhere under there. need to inspect again. (frustrating building)

first time i ever trusted someone to work on the car.
hopefully this can all be resolved in the next week.
Lesson learned : don't believe someone who puts pics on facebook of others peoples work claiming their the king of engine swaps.

I miss driving this thing. Came across this pic today and i did get a bit sad.
    sooon!

haven't updated this in a while.
finally pulled her out, motor was still giving some issues from the last wackjob.

dropped in a another motor and had everything fixed up.

it depends, there's two different heads for the second gen.
true dual cam, and chain driven one.

It was changed during the 98 model year I believe, check any of the sites for timing belts and they will give the specific sequence of vin number where the design changed. Earlier was a single cam pulley changed to a dual cam pulley in 1998.

any benefit in going true dual timing?

^ My understanding is that it's still not "true" dual timing, since the exhaust cam is actually driven by a chain off of the intake cam.

Negative, during the '98 model year the head design was changed a bit and both cams were turned by their own cam pulley, no timing chain between the cams. Not sure when this happened exactly but my '98 has two cam pulleys and does not drive the exhaust cam with a chain coming off the intake cam.
