Props for actually putting money where your mouth is. And actually doing something rather than talking about how you're going to do it but never do.

BUT.............. WHY would you drop your compression ratio to like 7:1??
the stock compression ratio is fine the way it is. JUst tune it properly and you will not have to worry about detonation, and you'll have more power both off and on boost.
Lowering compression ratio to run higher/really high boost is **** that people did last century.

Im not exactly sure what the weight difference is but the bp will make more horsepower while the z5 probably weighs 50 lbs less which will help the weight distribution stay closer to 50/50 and give better handling. It all depends on a persons preferences.

i understand the reasoning behind doing it, i would just rather do it with a bp. besides I seriously doubt there is a huge difference of weight in the z5, and bp.

If you build the strength of the engine up to where it can handle 300 horsepower without exploding then drop the compression rate of the pistons to around 7-1 balance the engine and put performance valve springs on it so you can rev up to 8000 rpms and run a top notch fuel and ignition management setup like the haltek or aem and run 20 pounds of boost and you will exceed 300 horsepower easily. unfortunately the cost would be about 3500 dollars if you did it yourself and you would be without your car for a little while.
The problem with that is most of us who own a protege own them because they are cheap and we are poor. But I bought my car for just over a thousand dollars and if I was to put 4 thousand into it I would have a 5000 dollar car with over 300 horsepower and weigh less than a wrx sti by 500 pounds. Or I could spend 30,000 on a new sports car. I see it a little like buying a new sports car that no one else has and only paying 5000 for it (plus suspension).

If you want even more boost than that you will need to get one of these kits with lower compression pistons. The prices are actually pretty good and you should be able to make an engine that can produce upwards of 300 horsepower.

Shop Performance Mazda Engine Kits and high performance Mazda pistons, rods, flywheels, crankshafts, camshafts, gaskets & more. We ship worldwide.

Well I didn't get to start it up yet because I decided to make some changes to the rrfpr and make it an adjustable rrfpr. I will be finished for sure tommorow and if all works out I will start tuning it rich and slowly lean it out till I am happy with the performance.

As far as the compression being higher that shouldn't be an issue unless you run more than 10psi of boost. The stock bp only put out at best 135hp and weighed more. If you check out this turbo calculator at http://www.turbofast.au/TFmatch.html you can see that my car weighing in around 2358lbs and producing around 190 bhp will be able to do the 1/4 mile in around 13.5 vs a bp at nearly 16 seconds. And if you are concerned about the bottom end not handling it then look up parts online for the bp and z5 and compare part numbers. The z5 has most of the bottom end of the bpt including bearings.

Good Luck Z5 Turbo Its Not Really Worth It Because Of Its Higher Compression And Liter Size 1.5 1.8 Is The Way To Go

Well i hope this is Mitch. Because I'm stopping by your house if thats the case just to see how it goes. I'm kinda disappointed your car is going to be running before mine. I just need to go buy a voltmeter from Advanced and figure out how to determine what is the negative and positive wire from the disty.
