    1.5 liter

    besides "nothing"

what can I do to improve performance on my 1.5 short of doing a swap?
i know there isn't much, but there's gotta be some things I can do....

throttle body, air intake, exhaust, taking out any unneeded weight, lots of small stuff that wont add up to a whole lot, but will make you feel better about your car. keep an eye on the guys turboing their z5s, if they can accomplish it, thats another option.

what throttle body? do any swap over?

I have a thingy to bore **** with. I bored the intake manifold on my 323 for a 60mm stock BP throttle body and it kicked some ass. I'd do something similar to my Z5 if a bigger tb fits.

BTW: what size is the stock Z5 tb? probably 50mm, just wondering

don't quote me on the throttle body, i haven't tried (just been waiting to bp it out), just assuming if you can do it to almost every other car, it should work on the z5. anyways gro, i thought you were wanting good gas mileage not performance....it has begun.HAHAHAHA

you could always gut your second cat or remove it all together and upgrade your exhaust.

naw...but if its a junkyard throttle body taht bolts directly on like the 1st gens, then i'd probably do it. the top-end on this 1.5 sucks a fattie

              Hey Gro,

Is the tool you use to bore stuff one of those Dremmel handheld rotary tools? I was wondering if something like that would work.

I took out a throttle body from the junkyard today but didn't buy it. They wanted too much for an electronic part from a car that looked too good body-wise. By that I mean that I don't know if the IAC, which I need badly, is also in bad condition. The throttle body was rusty on the back(inside)part. Four bolts, hoses and two connectors took off both units together. Four smaller screws hold the IAC or BAC to the TB. Is the IAC just the inside part of the BAC? I notice my Mazda manual calling it a BAC but then IAC. Hey, can I just fix my own IAC? Is it just a matter of cleaning out the unit of corrosion?

The IAC should be real cheap at the dealership. Well cheap as in 20 dollars. When I first bought my intake, i through it away and didn't realize i need it. So I had to buy one.

why do you need an IAC so bad? it shouldn't cause your car to stop running or anything. Idle funny maybe but not detrimental to the car driving and stuff.

And what tb did you pull? just a regular z5 one or some other cars?

My car is running pretty darn well after you're in Drive or Reverse (ATX). However, when it's idling, the idling will not go down. That's whether the car is cold and I just started it in the morning or if it's hot and I've been driving the car for an hour. It hurts when I start the car and put it into gear and it jerks the transmission with a good whack. It's worse when I have to switch to reverse to get out of the parking space. I went through every vacuum hose and replaced all weak ones or that didn't attach well anymore. I unplug the IAC and the car barely makes a bit of difference so I doubt it's doing anything anymore. Moving the TB screw does nothing since it's already at the lowest point. I can only make it idle faster but not lower. The throttle cable to the accelerator has no more adjustment left either.
